Dear Parent/Carer and Student,
We hope that you enjoyed the Easter (Spring) break and are refreshed for the challenges ahead in
the last term of the current academic year.
A new team and continuing support – making a difference.
Last term we bid farewell to our Principal Andy Hubble and wished him well for his future – he was
a good friend and supporter of the academy and has taken us through many challenges.
We also bid farewell to our Vice Principal Stephen Phipps, who has supported many students
through difficult times as well as having an active teaching commitment.
This term I am pleased to be your Acting Principal – confident that I will support the academy and
all its students and staff as we move forward.
We are fortunate to have three of our current staff who are stepping up to take on additional
responsibilities and roles in the next term:
Amy Mulkern will take on the role of Assistant Principal with a remit of Student Welfare.
Siân Hunt will take on the role of Assistant Principal for Curriculum and School Improvement.
Sarah Morgan will take on the role of Assistant Principal for all aspects of Business Services.
All three new appointments bring with them experience of both the school and the students whom
they work alongside. I look forward to working with them – and indeed all members of teaching and
support staff.
An important term – for all
This term will be crucial for our Year 11 as they face their external exam period. We all know how
important these exams are for our students’ life chances. At Robert Owen our staff is fully
committed to giving them all additional support and one to one meetings in the run up to the
exams. A strong home – school partnership is essential in this period. Please feel free to get in touch
with us to work together and boost performance of our students. We will go the ‘extra mile’ for
students to achieve their potential – secure in the knowledge that we have your encouragement and
commitment. This is our priority.
Outside this we do have other challenges and hurdles to overcome – we will keep you informed of
events as they unfold.
Yours sincerely
Paul Cordey
Acting Principal
