OurApproach:
Atfirstglance,RootstoHarvestmayappeartobeanurbanagriculture-focused
organization,butweencourageapplicantstolookmuchdeeperthanthat.Rootsto
Harvestisfirstandforemostaboutworkingwithpeople—inparticular,youthandyoung
adults.Weseektocreatemeaningfulopportunitiestoemployandengageyoungpeople
usingfoodandagricultureasthemediumtoconnectwiththecommunityandeach
other.Weworkhardtofindthedelicatebalancebetweenchallengeandachievementin
allofourprogramandprojects.
OurCulture:
RootstoHarvestisasmall,grassrootsorganizationthatisstillmaturingandcominginto
itsown.Weareasmallstaffandeverypositioninvolveselementsoforganizational
developmentandmaintenance.Weaimtofosteraculturethatistransparent,inclusive,
progressive,andproductive.Asstaff,weworkcollaboratively,weworkhard,wedo
whatneedstobedone,andwetrytokeepthebigpictureinmind.

Eligibility–CandidatesMUSTmeettheeligibilityrequirements:
Candidatesmusthavegraduatedwithinthelastthreeyearsfromanaccreditedcollege
oruniversityfromadegreeordiplomaprograminagriculture,urbansustainability,
communitydevelopment,education/experientialeducation,orrelatedfieldofstudy.
CandidatesmustbelegallyentitledtoworkinCanada.Candidatesareineligibleifthey
havepreviouslyparticipatedinanNOHFCinternship.
Responsibilities:
Duringthisone-yearposition,theSustainableFoodSystemsFacilitatorwillworkclosely
withtheProgramFacilitatorLeadtodevelopanddeliveraprogramgearedtoincrease
employmentcapacityinyoungadultsaged18-30.TheSustainableFoodSystems
Facilitatorwillalsoworkwithadultlearnersinkitchens;cookingandbuilding
community.Specifically,responsibilitiesinclude:
- Dailyprogramdeliveryandfacilitationof6-8adultlearnersaturbanagriculture
sitesinThunderBay;
- Helpcreatetrainingmaterialsforadultlearners;
- AssistwithongoingmaintenanceandcareforurbanagriculturesitesinThunder
Bay;
- Developanddeliverevaluationtoolsfortrainees,communitymembers,and
otherparticipantsattheagriculturesites;
- Leadandassistwithfoodprogrammingwithadultlearnersinlocalagencies.
