Places to Play Ballot Rules

Places to Play Ballot Rules
Online Counties, David Lloyd Leisure and Virgin Active Health and Rackets Clubs
The following ballot rules must be adhered to, in order to ensure that ballots are run fairly and
consistently for all BTMs and across all Places to Play within ‘online’ counties.
1. All tickets allocated to a Place to Play must be distributed through a transparent and fairly run
ballot and places to play are not permitted to charge an individual fee for entering into their ticket
ballot. Legal guidance as to how to avoid running an illegal lottery is available at
www.LTA.org.uk/illegallotteries
2. All tickets allocated to a Place to Play must be distributed in pairs.
3. Any winner of tickets in a Place to Play ballot must use the tickets for themselves with a guest.
The guest can be of the winner’s choosing and does not have to be a BTM. Please note this is
consistent with the approach of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club Limited regarding
the allocation of tickets for The Championships, Wimbledon.
4. Any winner of a pair of tickets in the Place to Play ballot who is under the age of 16 on the date
that the Place to Play ballot takes place must have permission from a parent/guardian in order to
purchase the tickets and be accompanied by an adult when he/she attends The Championships,
Wimbledon if he/she is still under the age of 16 on the date that the tickets are for.
5. A BTM may only win a maximum of one pair of tickets through each Place to Play ballot.
6. No tickets should be given away or used outside of the Place to Play ballot for example as a
prize in any raffle, tombola or other prize draw or given to a Place to Play’s staff, volunteers or
coaches (excluding where such individuals are BTMs and win tickets in the Place to Play ballot) or
to any sponsors or commercial partners of a Place to Play.
Inclusion of BTMs
7. Adult and Junior affiliate BTMs are eligible and must be offered the opportunity to be included in
the ballot. In order to be eligible for their Ballot, Junior and Adult BTMs must be linked to their LTA
Registered Place to Play on their British Tennis Membership profile by close of business on the
last business day prior to the running of the ballot. Please note that in the case of affiliated clubs
that are multisport clubs, tennis members, which may include players, volunteers and tennis social
members of those clubs, who have registered as affiliated BTMs are also eligible for the ballot. In
relation to tennis specific registered Places to Play, social members of those Places to Play who
have registered as Affiliate BTMs are also eligible for the ballot.
8. Main contacts at each Place to Play are able to view a list of the affiliated BTMs at their Place to
Play using the Places to Play Self Service. Please ensure this list is kept up to date and people
who are no longer BTMs at your Place to Play or who are not eligible for free BTM are removed.
Please note the LTA will carry out checks from time to time to ensure the lists of BTMs at each
Place to Play are correct. There is also a separate ‘eligible BTM list’ within the Ballot Management
section, which identifies eligible members based on the terms outlined in paragraph 7.
9. No child BTMs (8 and under) are permitted to enter the Place to Play ballot and these BTMs will
not be considered in the calculation of an individual Place to Play’s allocation of tickets for The
Championships, Wimbledon.

10. All Adult and Junior BTMs should be allowed to opt out of entering their Place to Play Ballot (if
an opt in system is being used, then these people can simply not opt in).
11. Any individual who has signed up to affiliate BTM before close of business on the last business
day prior to the running of the Place to Play ballot for the club which they are affiliated to must be
permitted to enter the Place to Play ballot. Club Main Contacts are able to view their current BTMs
using the Places to Play Self Service.
12. Any members of a registered Place to Play who are not BTMs affiliated to that Place to Play
are not permitted to enter that Place to Play Ballot.
13. If an individual is a member of more than one Place to Play, then they are permitted to enter
the ballots at each of the places where they are members and therefore could win a pair of tickets
in each Place to Play ballot.
14. If the Place to Play ballot is held during an event and a BTM is unable to attend the event but
wishes to be included within the ballot, then their name must be included within the ballot and the
BTM should nominate another BTM or a member of the Management Committee of the registered
Place to Play (who is willing to do so) who is present to accept any tickets won in the ballot on his
or her behalf. Individuals who appoint another individual to accept the tickets on their behalf must
have an equal chance of being successful in the ballot as any affiliate BTM present.
15. Places to Play must run their ballots within the timeframes set out by the LTA.
16. British Tennis Membership terms and conditions are provided for all clubs to use when running
ballots. These are available at www.LTA.org.uk/BTMTC
17. Any Place to Play found to be in breach of these rules may have the option to run their ballot
manually or randomly removed in future years, and be obliged to use the random system for ticket
allocation.
