Today’s Matchup
“4 Downs” with the Buccaneers
1 - Last season, Charleston Southern won its first
outright Big South Conference title and made its
first FCS Playoffs appearance, advancing to the
quarterfinals. This season, CSU’s conference title
and FCS Playoffs hopes are in jeopardy, following
a 17-10 loss to Gardner-Webb last Saturday. The
setback snapped the Buccaneers’ string of 11
straight Big South victories. CSU all-time leading
rusher Mike Holloway (2,429 career yards) ranks
No. 1 nationally in yards per carry with 8.9.
2-
Saturday’s game will match up the top two
kickoff returners in FCS football. CSU’s Darius
Hammond is leading the nation with 32.3 yards
per return, while Liberty’s Frankie Hickson is listed No. 2 with 31.9 yards per return.
3 - Charleston Southern is seeking its third straight
victory over the Flames, following a 38-36 win at
Liberty in 2014 and a 31-24 home victory last
season. Prior to those back-to-back triumphs,
CSU had only won two of its first 21 all-time gridiron meetings with the Flames. Redshirt freshman Shane Bucenell is the third different QB to
start for the Buccaneers this season.
4 - Fourth-year Charleston Southern Head Coach
Jamey Chadwell has completely turned the program around, posting a 33-13 record during his
three-plus seasons on the sidelines. The Buccaneers had won just 35 total games in the seven
seasons before Chadwell took over.
Last Meeting with Charleston Southern
Nov. 14, 2015
No. 11/8 Charleston So. 31, Liberty 24
Charleston, S.C. (Buccaneer Field)
•A nine-yard TD pass from Austin Brown to Nathan Perera with 5:16 remaining broke a 24-24
deadlock, sealing an outright Big South title for
Charleston Southern.
•Brown finished the game 20-of-34 passing for
301 yards and 4 TDs. Two of those scores went
to Perera, who totaled seven receptions for 128
yards.
•Liberty’s Josh Woodrum completed 20-of-34
passes for 177 yards, eclipsing the 10,000-passing yard mark for his career.
•The Flames were limited to 53 yards on 22 carries
and were outgained 460-274 for the game.
•Liberty stayed close in part due to a 44-yard interception return for a TD by Jeremy Peters and a
44-yard TD pass from Damian King to Darrin Peterson on a trick play. The Flames owned a 14-10
halftime lead and led 21-17 in the third quarter.

2 - Alex Probert needs two points to break Phillip
Harrelson’s (1995) Liberty freshman record of 70
points.
2/38 - Dante’ Shells has tallied seven TD recep-
tions this season and needs two more to move
into a tie for fourth place on Liberty’s all-time
single season list. Shells is also 38 receiving yards
away from 2,000 for his career. He would become the seventh Flames receiver ever to tally
2,000+ career receiving yards.
76 -
Todd Macon has rushed for 610 yards this
season, while Carrington Mosley has tallied 595
rushing yards. Frankie Hickson (76 yards shy of
500) is also nearing the 500-yard rushing mark
for the season. The Flames have not had a trio
of 500-yard rushers in the same season since
2004, when Sam Gado (901 yards), Dre Barnes
(758 yards) and Eugene Goodman (609 yards) all
accomplished the feat.
A Liberty Win Would ...
•Wrap up the Flames’ first undefeated Big South
record and first outright Big South title since the
2008 Liberty team went 5-0.
•Clinch the Flames’ second FCS Playoffs berth in
program history, following the team’s appearance in 2014.
•Give the Flames their first victory over Charleston
Southern since 2013, improving Liberty’s all-time
record versus the Buccaneers to 20-4 overall and
11-2 at Williams Stadium.
•Make Charleston Southern the first opponent
the Flames have ever defeated 20 times in program history.
•Produce the Flames’ first six-game winning
streak since the team won six in a row spanning
Oct. 1-Nov. 5, 2011.
•Mark the Flames’ sixth straight Big South home
victory, giving them a 24-6 home record under
Turner Gill.
•Improve the Flames’ record to 7-4 in their last 11
meetings with FCS Top 25 opponents.
•Boost the Flames’ November record under Turner Gill to 15-2.
Quick Hitters
• Liberty appears in the FCS Top 25 polls this week
for the first time this season, checking in at No.
25 in the STATS FCS Top 25 and No. 24 in the FCS
Coaches Poll. The Flames are nationally ranked

• The Flames are 53-11 in home games at Williams
Stadium since the start of the 2006 season, including 4-1 this season.

win at No. 2/1 Coastal Carolina on Nov. 22, 2014,
the Flames’ first-ever victory over a No. 1 team in
program history.
• Liberty has clinched its 11th straight winning season, dating back to 2006. The Flames entered the
season as one of five active FCS programs with a
