Alveley vs Highley match report
This was the final for the B league tournament at Bridgnorth Endowed School
2014. Throughout the tournament both Alveley and Highley have displayed
great progression through good passing, quick footwork and great teamwork.
As they set upon the pitch the referee called in the captains and heads and
tails was called. Highley had first kick. The whistle blew and the match had
begun.
Instantly Daniel had won the ball. Running forward at such pace he was forced
to release the ball, passing it down the wing as they went to cross it a Highley
player committed a tackle giving Highley possession. This is what happened for
the remaining minutes of the first half.
In the second half several shots were taken by both sides. This was forcing
fantastic saves from both keepers and adrenaline was building. The closest
Alveley came to a goal was when a powerful shot came in from outside the
box, smashing the cross bar.
Because the match was a draw extra time had to be played to decide the
winner. As the teams both attacked many chances were wasted. Several shots
were bombarded at the goals but none coming close. But finally a long throw
into the box from a Highley player was poked into the net.
But instantly a huge kick over the top from the goal keeper Jack was attacked
by Daniel. As he shot the Highley keeper was forced make a great diving save
but as he carried out the ball, striker Jak slid in and got a well deserved goal.
Now it was down to penalties with Alveley taking the first. It was the captain
Bens penalty and he simply scored. Next it was Highleys penalty and they
scored a fantastic penalty. The next penalty was easily passed into the net and
so did the next Highley player. It was Alveleys last penalty and it was buried by
Jacob. Now it was the last penalty if Highley missed they would lose …. he
missed !
This resulted in us being crowned the victors of the BES football league!
