Super Bowl XLIX “Green” Legacy Tree Planting Ceremony

In honor of Arizona hosting its third Super Bowl, the City of Glendale has received a $3,500
grant to replace aged and dying citrus trees at the Historic Sahuaro Ranch Park. The grant
will be used by an all-volunteer force to help plant the new trees. The tree planting event
will take place on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 9 a.m. Four local cities were awarded matching
grants by the NFL and the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee in partnership with Super
Bowl sponsor Verizon and local nonprofit Valley Permaculture Alliance. For more information,

DIRECTV’s Super Fan Festival

Beginning daily at 5 p.m.
The three-day music festival will feature 12 artists, including: Zac Brown Band, Calvin Harris,
Imagine Dragons and Snoop Dogg. The festival also features a variety of other activities,
including a mechanical bull, a zip line, a carnival-style shooting range, a Par 3 Closest to
the Pin contest; a test track giving fans the opportunity to try a new car; a football skills
challenge hosted by NFL Hall of Famer Lynn Swann of the Pittsburgh Steelers; a Bud Light
Biergarten; and the Food Network’s “Cutthroat Kitchen Experience,” allowing fans an
opportunity to win cash and prizes. Jonathan and Drew Scott of HGTV’s “Property Brothers”
will also be on hand to emcee the opening sets each night at the HGTV Lodge.

The free outdoor concert series will feature a different music genre each night, from classic
rock and electronic dance music to country and 80’s hits. Westgate is home to more than
20 restaurants, bars and retailers in addition to an open-air beer garden around the stage
and other fan activities. Guests over 21 can also enjoy an open-air beer garden benefiting the 100 Club of Arizona, which provides financial assistance, emotional support, safety
enhancement stipends and other material aid to public safety workers and their immediate
family members. Westgate is home to Buffalo Wild Wings, Yard House, McFadden’s, Kabuki
Japanese Restaurant, Johnny Rockets, and the state’s largest AMC Theatres featuring

This interactive football experience will be open to ticket-holders only on Super Bowl
Sunday. It will feature four different interactive games that will challenge fans’ football
skills. The Extra Point Kick will test participants’ ability to convert an extra point through
regulation NFL uprights. Let It Fly puts participants in the quarterback position and shows
just how far each person can toss a spiral downfield. Next, the Quarterback Challenge
shows off accuracy on special targets. And finally, Touch Pass will test participants’ ability
to pass with enough arc to clear the defender and enough aim to drop in into the target.
