Day 1: Nomad Kuro Camp, Tarangire National Park
Tanzania
Wildlife, beaches, ruins, Mt Kilimanjaro, friendly people, fascinating cultures – Tanzania has all these and more
wrapped up in one adventurous, welcoming package.
Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coastline is magical, with tranquil islands and sleepy coastal villages steeped in centuries of
Swahili culture. Wherever you go, opportunities abound for getting to know Tanzania’s people and cultures. Meet
red-cloaked Maasai warriors. Spend time with the semi-nomadic Barabaig near Mt Hanang. More than anything else,
it is Tanzanians themselves – with their characteristic warmth and politeness, and the dignity and beauty of their
cultures – who make a visit so memorable.
More than almost any other destination, Tanzania is the land of safaris. Wildebeest stampede across the plains.
Hippos jostle for space in muddy waterways. Elephants wander along seasonal migration routes and chimpanzees
swing through the treetops. Throughout the country, there are unparalleled opportunities to experience this natural
wealth.
Tarangire National Park
After the Serengeti, Tarangire has the greatest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania and in the dry season the
Tarangire River is a magnet for thirsty wildlife. Large herds of elephants and migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo,
impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland gather and not surprisingly the predators follow. This is also the one place in
Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as oryx and gerenuk are regularly spotted. Tarangire is also known for its
spectacular baobab trees, and its breathtaking views of the Masaai Steppe and the mountains to the south.
Located just a few hours drive from the town of Arusha, Tarangire is a popular stop for safaris travelling through the
northern circuit on their way to Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. The park extends into two game controlled areas and
the wildlife are allowed to move freely throughout.
Day Notes
Kuro Tarangire is set amid a grove of Acacia and Kigelia trees on the banks of the Tarangire River - often a dry, sandy
course snaking through this quiet area of the park. The area sees the rhythmic movement of wildlife as it traverses
the park from the hills in the west to the swamps on the eastern side, and between the north and the south along
the river line. Conscious of wanting to experience this place in a way that harmonises with the natural tempo,
without overpowering it, we've created a camp with a light footprint. At the culmination of each season we will
move on like the Nomads we are, leaving only the trees and birds and animals, as if we were never here. That's not
to say that we don't like to be comfortable though. Our six light and stylish safari tents are complete with
comfortable beds, en-suite bucket shower and flushing eco-toilet. The rest amongst the trees with views over the

African bush. We gather to share meals and relax under the cool grass thatch of the opensided lounge and dining
area which is furnished with hides and canvas, brought to
life with a touch of colourful and tactile textiles.
Overnight: Nomad Kuro Camp
Kuro is located in the central part of Tarangire National Park, away from the busy north and in easy reach of the
main river and Silale and Gursi Swamps plus other excellent game areas. It lies in a grove of acacia trees, on the
main game routes near the banks of the Tarangire River.
There are six large, light safari tents with verandahs and en-suite bucket showers and flush eco-toilets. Solar lighting,
hot water provided on demand. Open-sided, airy, grass thatched. This small, stylishly simple camp is in a quiet,
secluded setting surrounded by fantastic walking territory and within easy reach of all the best wildlife areas. The
camp combines airy tents with a cool open-sided thatch mess. This area is great for walking, day and night drives,
and particularly well known for big herds of buffalo and elephant, excellent general game and exceptional birdlife.
Easily accessible, combines perfectly with our camps in the Serengeti, Loliondo and our partners in the Ngorongoro
Crater/Highlands.
Activities on offer include game drives and night drives in open 4WD vehicles, walking safaris, sundowners and bush
picnics, outstanding mammal and bird viewing.
Kuro is a dry season camp open between June and November; hot days and cool nights. This is the best wildlife time
in Tarangire.

Day 3: Plantation Lodge, Ngorongoro Region
Ngorongoro Region
Situated in the shadow of the Ngorongoro Crater the area around Karatu is perfect for exploring two of Tanzania’s
gems, the Crater and Lake Manyara National Park.
Day Notes
Plantation Lodge is owner-run, and a stay there really feels like you are a guest in someone's home. Only a 20minute drive from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, it's a well-placed spot from which to see the Crater and
surrounding Ngorongoro Highlands. The lodge has 15 standard rooms and seven Suites, all scattered through
beautiful gardens. They take great pride in their gardens, with flowering beds and mango and avocado trees planted
throughout. The gardens can also be the backdrop to lunch or afternoon tea and are a great place for bird watching:
Fischer's Lovebirds and the Yellow-Bellied Sunbird are regular visitors. Food plays an important part in life here, with
a vegetable, herb and fruit garden helping to supply the table. Meals are a relaxed affair in the main lodge, with the
bar and upstairs veranda being a popular place to relax after a long day. Swim in the main pool, or relax with a
treatment from their qualified masseuse. Alternatively you can visit a nearby coffee plantation to learn how coffee
beans are treated and processed or take a walk into one of the farms adjacent, to see how people there live and
work.
Overnight: Plantation Lodge
Like a green oasis, Plantation Lodge rests on the soft, red-brown hills amidst the vastness and silence of East Africa.
The individually furnished rooms and suites melting harmoniously into the flowering garden offer comfort and
relaxation. Everywhere you look, you can see and even feel the personal atmosphere of this owner-run lodge with
furnishings that were selected with great attention to detail. Plantation Lodge’s cordial service leaves no wish
unfulfilled. The lodge’s location promises maximum safari enjoyment: a stone’s throw from the entrance to the
Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a short hop from the Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks, and just a short
journey from the Serengeti ...

Day Notes
Visit the world famous crater today.
Activities
Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater is game viewing gone crazy and it is not surprising that with is one of Tanzania’s major tourist
drawcards. Within the crater rim a daily wildlife drama is played out as large herds of zebra and wildebeest graze
nearby lions, leopards, elephants and black rhinos. Outside of the crater a similar drama continues in a more spread
out manner with Masai herdsmen thrown into the mix.

Day 5: Serengeti Safari Camp (Kogatende), Northern Serengeti
Northern Serengeti
The Serengeti together with Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Park form Africa’s most famous wildlife park. The image of
acacia trees on an endless grass plain epitomises Africa for many, and then add a Masai warrior and some cattle to
the picture and the conversation need go no further. Unlike the southern plains of the Serengeti that dry out,
forcing all but the hardiest of species to leave, the Northern Serengeti remains lush and green throughout the year.
The annual wildebeest migration through the Serengeti and the Masai Mara is the largest mass movement of land
mammals on the planet – with more than a million animals following the rains. From July through to October the
Migration is in the Northern Serengeti and this is where many of the most famous scenes of the Migration occur
with almost daily crossings of the Mara River.
But that is not where the game viewing ends; large prides of lions, elephants and giraffes in grasslands, gazelles and
eland to mention but a few.
Day Notes
Our Serengeti Safari Camp was the first of its kind. It was designed with a purpose in mind; to be in the best possible
location to view the wildebeest migration as it covers hundreds of miles of the Serengeti National Park each year. So
it should come as no surprise that it really hasn't changed much since its early pioneering days. Each year, the camp
casts off from Lamai Serengeti and begins its own odyssey. Covering hundreds of miles and moving every couple of
months along a route that the herds have traveled for hundreds of years, Serengeti Safari Camp is where you come
for your migration fix. We understand well the Serengeti seasons and game movements, and how best to mirror
them in this little nomadic camp. Serengeti Safari Camp has just six large walk-in meru tents, with a dressing area
and then an en-suite bathroom at the rear. New eco-flush toilets and safari-style bucket showers are part of every
tent, as well as jugs of hot and cold water delivered as and when you'd like them. The main dining tent sits in the
middle of the line of tents, with the fireplace right in front and a separate library/bar tent nearby.
Overnight: Serengeti Safari Camp (Kogatende)
Tanzania’s pioneering mobile camp that moves seasonally to be in the best possible location to witness the great
herds; still doing it in East African tented style with migration-chasing adventures and your own private car and guide
to take you out into the midst of the action.
Nomad Tanzania was among the first companies to start mobile safaris in the Greater Serengeti. The company built
its reputation on exceptional guiding. A unique micro-finance model allows each guide to buy his own vehicle
(equipped to high Nomad standards), and to earn from it on each safari, meaning that he is doubly invested in each
trip. In this way Nomad is able to retain a longstanding team of highly trained guides, which are a cornerstone of the
company. Opt for a private guide at Serengeti Safari Camp for the luxury of complete flexibility and local expert
knowledge which takes the safari into a new dimension. The default is shared game drives, still with expert Nomad
guides.
The camp strikes a balance between comfort and mobility. Moving 4-5 times a year to be located within reach of the
herds as they follow their age old route, the camp is designed in the old pioneering style. Camp life is epitomised by
early morning tea delivered to your tent, gin and tonics around the campfire, meals shared around a communal table
and hot safari bucket showers before retiring to a cosy bed. Days are spent out in search of the herds and
accompanying predators, possibly with a picnic breakfast or lunch.
