Deep Relationships.
Forward Thinking.
And not just one
lawyer, a team.
Miles & Stockbridge P.C. welcomes the 12 talented lawyers who
joined our Tysons Corner, Virginia, office over the last year, with a
focus on business litigation, products liability defense, intellectual
property, corporate, government contracts, real estate, and creditors’
rights/bankruptcy matters. They join a team of more than 220
AUTHORIZED BY JOHN B. FRISCH, CHAIRMAN
lawyers across our firm’s eight mid-Atlantic offices.

PUBLISHER’S NOTE
Virginia Lawyers Weekly is pleased to present its 2014 survey of “Virginia’s Largest Law Firms.”
As in years past, we have ranked law firms in the commonwealth by the number of Virginia-licensed lawyers working in
offices located within Virginia.
Starting on page 3, you’ll find the traditional “Top 75” list, naming the biggest law firms
across Virginia, along with the number of lawyers at each firm.
Virginia’s
Largest
Law Firms
2014
The survey includes other information, such as location(s) of offices and phone
numbers. Some firms took the opportunity to purchase an enhanced listing with
additional information, such as the firm website, areas of practice, firm contacts and other
significant data.
Sponsored by
A supplement to Virginia Lawyers Weekly
Most of the information appearing in the survey was provided by officials at the firms
themselves in response to our requests. For non-responding firms, we have relied on the
firms’ websites to obtain the ranking info. Those firms feature an asterisk (*) after their
names in the survey charts.
We greatly appreciate the participation and cooperation of all the firms that
responded with their survey forms. We have made every effort to present complete rankings. If we have missed a firm,
please advise us.

visibility in the communities in
which we live and serve has bestowed a tremendous responsibility
upon our attorneys and staff to conscientiously and diligently give back.
It is our belief that giving back involves leadership and is demonstrated by actions as much as financial commitment. We encourage action in many forms – from the provision of pro bono legal services to
sponsorship, representation, and
membership of a multitude of civic,
charitable, and cause-driven organizations.

Diversity initiatives: Our commitment to being a diverse and inclusive place to work is at the core of
our vision and our values. The firms
that combined to form Hogan
Lovells each have a long history of
being committed to recruiting, retaining, and promoting lawyers and
others with diverse backgrounds
and experiences. We believe that
promoting diversity is simply the
right thing to do and is an integral
part of Hogan Lovells. We believe
that a culture of inclusion, which respects and values the diversity of all
our people, significantly enhances
our ability to provide excellent legal
services to our clients. With our
global reach, we have initiatives that
are responsive to the varied needs
of the diverse communities in which
2014
we live and work. Some of our most
important initiatives currently include women's initiatives, affinity

builds awareness within the firm

and exclusion in our communities.
The strength of the firm's community affairs work lies in the excellent
relationships we have forged with
partnering agencies and local community leaders. This helps to ensure
that our community work is relevant, well executed, and sustainable

Representative clients: Miles &
Stockbridge helps global, national,
local and emerging business clients
preserve and create value by helping them solve their most important
problems. The lawyers in our Tysons
Corner office represent clients in
business litigation, products liability
defense, intellectual property, corporate, government contracts, real
estate, and creditors’ rights/bankruptcy matters. We also focus on key
industries in which our clients operate, including manufacturing and
distribution, real estate, and finance
and capital markets.
Lifestyle benefits: Our Tysons Corner office is moving to a new space
in Spring 2014 that is designed to
accommodate future growth and
enhance interaction. We will remain
in the heart of the thriving Tysons
Corner business community with
convenient access to amenities and
public transportation. We offer competitive compensation and benefits,
flexible arrangements, and a culture
that supports our firm mission: As a
unified team, to deliver unparalleled
service built on a foundation of
trust.
Diversity Initiatives: Chairman and
CEO, John Frisch, leads Miles &
Stockbridge’s diversity efforts along
with co-chair Heidi Hansan, a member of our firm’s board of directors,
co-chair of our Transactional Finance Practice Group, and an active
member of our Recruitment Committee. We have an affirmative agenda of initiatives to recruit women
and minorities, to assist them in
their professional development, and
to place them on key client and industry teams and on internal firm
committees. Miles & Stockbridge
supports the activities of two voluntary, affinity groups in our firm: The
Miles Minority Network and The
Women’s Network, which provide
social networks, business development support, and community outreach opportunities for members
and for our firm in general.
Community Involvement: Every
lawyer is encouraged to contribute
2014
his or her legal talents in ways that
further the application of justice,
build trust in the law and legal system, and support organizations that
enhance community life. During
2013 alone, our lawyers contributed
more than 5,400 hours to pro bono
representations. Additionally, 73 percent of our lawyers gave their time
and talents to boards, professional
activities, and other community endeavors to support children and
families, education, healthcare, arts
and culture, economic development, and the legal profession. They
spent more than 5,100 hours involved in community activities and
more than 5,900 hours on professional activities with business and
legal industry associations.
Significant Changes in 2013: Miles
& Stockbridge’s Tysons Corner office
grew considerably during 2013 with
the addition of 12 lawyers to our
team. Eight of our new lawyers in
Virginia joined our growing Intellec-
tual Property Practice, including
Michael Fleming, the former Chief
Administrative Patent Judge of the
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
(USPTO). Our other additions in
2013 focus their practices on business litigation, government contracts, and creditors’ rights and
bankruptcy. We expect to continue
our strategic expansion in Northern
Virginia and the Greater Washington, D.C. area in 2014 and beyond.

Virginia’s Largest Law Firms 2014 | Page 15
ABOUT THE DIRECTORY
The annual survey of “Virginia’s Largest Law Firms” is based on the number of Virginialicensed lawyers practicing from an office located within the commonwealth.
This winter, using e-mail and making follow-up telephone calls, we solicited current information from all the firms that appeared in the 2013 survey. Many firms responded
with their 2014 data. For those that did not respond, we used the numbers from the
firms’ own websites. For those firms, the listing contains an asterisk (*) after the firm
name.
All qualifying law firms in the survey were provided a basic listing in this booklet. A
number of law firms took the opportunity to purchase an enhanced listing in the survey booklet, adding information such as firm logo, firm website address, clients, firm
contacts and areas of practice.
In compiling the 2014 survey of “Virginia’s Largest Law Firms,”
we have made every effort to provide complete and accurate
information. If we have inadvertently left out a firm, or if the
information listed is not correct, please contact:
