1) Students will be able to use results from their online assessment to begin exploring careers that
match their abilities and interests.
2) Students will be able to pick four of the careers from their interest inventory and research each
career’s average income, level of school or training required, and specific subjects that are necessary.
Materials:
Students need: Computer, career interest table, pencil
Instructor needs: Computer and projector
Bell Ringer: What is the difference between a career and a job?
Answer: A career implies long-term commitment and potential professional growth within that company
A job implies more of a part-time or short-term position that you would do to earn some money
Note: A job can turn into a career if you decide to make it a long-term commitment.
Time: about 30 minutes but can be stretched out depending on what assessment you have them do.

Getting set up for online career exploration:
Have students go onto www.pacareerzone.org
I recommend that they register and it is quick and easy to do. This would allow them to view their
results and continue on the site for the next few years.
To register: Click on register now in the middle of the page and fill in the information they ask you for. I
recommend having the same password for all students like rockets#1 so it is easy to remember.
If students do not want to give out their email they should use a school email OR
[email protected] this will allow them to register but they will not get any emails. Mailcatch is a
waste site where emails just get deleted as soon as they show up. They can use any Username they
want because they do not need to remember it.
Once you are registered,
Click on Assess Yourself you have several options. You can do a quick assessment in about two minutes
by just clicking on the wheel for three things that describe your interest (hover over them with you
mouse to see what each one means). After you have chosen them, click view results. This will give you a
list of careers that utilize those interests. If you click on the career name it will give you all the
information you need to fill in your career chart.
If this sounds like a good career for you, go up and select history and fill in the information so it will be
saved on your resume builder. You can also bookmark it to save it as a favorite.
Find four careers that interest you and complete the chart with these. If you do not get four hits you can
click on the link on the left under the picture that tells you which career cluster your first one was in and
then look at some other careers in that same cluster.
If you would like to get more specific about a career where you would excel, go back and complete one
of the other assessments. These are all longer but they compare a lot more information to conclude
your ideal career. You can access this information from any device that can get on the website so you
can update your information if your interests change.
