"I have never played in an LPGA tournament, so playing in the U.S. Open as my
first tournament is amazing," said Minarro, who plays on the Symetra Tour.
The 27-year-old Minarro moved to Port St. Lucie three years ago and plays most
of her golf at PGA Golf Club. She started working with instructor Jeff Leishman
last year.
She credited her mental approach with qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open
July 7-10 at CordeValle in Calif.
"Even though I knew I was doing birdies, I stayed shot by shot," she said.
Liu won last year's inaugural U.S. Women's Four-Ball with Rinko Mitsunaga and will play for the U.S. in next week's
Curtis Cup in Ireland. The 17-year-old is a junior at IMG Academy in Bradenton,
"I never thought I'd play in the U.S. Women's Open, so it's definitely one of those tournaments I want to put in my
pocket," Liu said. "I will treasure every moment."
This marks the second consecutive year Quail Ridge has hosted the U.S. Women's Open sectional qualifier.
"The course is in fabulous shape," Minarro said. "The conditions were great."
LPGA Tour member Jaclyn Jansen shot rounds of 67-71 to take first alternate at 138. Maria Hoyos (72-67-139) of
Colombia was second alternate.
