LONGITUDINAL EVOLUTION OF DISSOLVED ORGANIC NITROGEN BIOAVAILABILITY FROM FRESHWATER TO ESTUARINE ECOSYSTEM Siti Jariani Mohd Jani and Gurpal S. Toor Soil & Water Quality Laboratory, Gulf Coast Research and Education Center, University of Florida, Wimauma, FL Why this Research? Contribution of DON to nutrient enrichment and eutrophication in water bodies is poorly understood and usually neglected. Objective: To determine the longitudinal evolution of DON and it’s bioavailability from freshwater to estuarine ecosystem. Bioassay Experiment: Five days incubation under 12:12 light:dark cycle. Outcome of Research? Free flowing river (1‐5) Impounded river (6&7) Estuarine (8‐11) Check out my poster.
