JH Boys win two at
Hanson Tourney

On Saturday, December 3rd the Hawks went to
Hanson to play in a tournament. In the first game
they played Sanborn Central-Woonsocket. Shay
Jolley had 9 points. Drew Seubert had 2 points.
Mason Decker had 8 points. Jerad Nielson had 6
points and Collin Wells had 5. SCW went on and
beat the Hawks 42-30.
In the second game the Hawks played Menno. Jerad Nielsen had 2 points. Shay Jolley had 8
points. Drew Seubert had 4 points. Mason Decker had had 8 points. Garrett Rotert had 6 points. Noah Sandman had 2 points and Collin Wells had
13 points. The Hawks beat the Wolves 43-25.
In the last game of the day for the Hawks they
played Bridgewater-Emery. Jerad Nielsen had 18
points. Shay Jolley had 6 points. Drew Seubert
had 6 points. Mason Decker had 7 points. Garrett
Rotert had 2 points. Noah Sandman had 5 points

Drama Class to present “Snapshots”

The local Drama class has been practicing and
preparing to present the play “Snapshots.” The
play will be performed Wednesday, December
14th during the school day.
The performance will be at 9:00am for the elementary students and at 1:30p.m it will be performed again for the middle and high school students.
The following students in the play are: Kirsten
Danley, Colton Golder, Haley Golder, Chelsey
Peterson, Krissie Reiner, Rebecca Johns, Tanisha
Remer, Kassidy Buse, Seth Weidenbach, Cody
Bunger, Katlyn Heiberger, Brianna Buseman,
Lexy Sandman, Carson Hofer, Dominick Weber,
Jason Van Winkle, Riley Portwood, and Cassi
Townsend.
This play shows glimpses into teenage life.
Being a teenager is tough! Nosy little brothers,
first dances, rumors, and making the team are only
a few things that worry most teenagerss This play
covers a wide range of trials and tribulations that
many teenagers face every day, but with laughter and a positive outlook we manage to make it
through the day!
“I’m really excited for the 14th, we’ve been
working really hard!” said Mrs. Hayes. “Drama
class isn’t even really a class to me, because I have
fun everyday!” said Haley Golder.
JH Girls defeat Freeman JH Boys defeat Freeman

The girls junior high basketball team played
Freeman on December 6. The girls did great and
played well. Canistota won 42 to 21. The leading scorers were, Kalli Ortman scored 16 point
and Macy Robertson scored 10 points. Jillianne
Hofer scored 6 points, Jessica Tiezen and Madisyn Jerman scored 4 points, and Kassidy Engbrecht scored 2 points.
The Canistota Junior High Boys had a win
against Freeman. The final score was 45 to 11.
The leading scorers were Collin Wells who
scored 15 points, and Mason Decker that scored
12 points. Jerad Nielsen scored 6 points, Shay
Jolley, Garrett Rotert, and Noah Sandman each
scored 4 points.
JV Lady Hawks Defeat ORR
The Canistota Lady Hawks JV opened their
2011-2012 girls basketball season with a victory
over the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders. The
Lady Hawks jumped out to a 8-3 lead in the first
quarter and never looked back.
Sydney Randall led the team with 8 points, 6
of which came in the 3rd quarter. Lexys Sandman, Kayla Marquardt, Brianna Buseman, and
Christine Heiman each scored 2 points a piece. Morgan Larson scored 1 point.
The Lady Hawks were 1 of 3 from the line. “We came out very aggressive in the first quarter. We were a bit nervous to start, but over all it was
a very good effort on our part. We now know
what we have to work on to continue to get better,” said Coach Strang.

Top FCCLA Fruit, Meat and Cheese Sellers Recognized

The FCCLA chapter used the first two weeks
of November to make their annual fruit, meat and
cheese sales. This year the chapter sold around
$7,400 worth of products. All profits will be used
to fund the FCCLA state convention trip that will
be held in April. Forty-nine members, 72% of the
chapter, took the time to sell at least one product.
“I’ve always been an avid seller of meat, fruit and
cheese. I love to do my part to help FCCLA,” said
Wade Weeldreyer.
FCCLA members are enticed to raise money
by being tempted with a cash prize. First place receives $20, second place receives $10, and third
place receives $5. Cole Webb was this year’s top
salesman, earning $528. Christine Heiman earned
second place by making $478. Kassidy Engbrecht finished with the third best sales, selling $457
worth of products. Congratulations to the top
salesmen.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
Haley Sue Jerman

Haley Sue Jerman was born at Sioux Valley
Hospital, in Sioux Falls, on August 24th, 1993. She
is the daughter of Mark Jerman, who is a farmer
and Pam Jerman, who is a nurse. Haley is the second youngest of 5 sisters, Paige, Whitney, Morgan,
and youngest sister Madisyn.
Haley is involved in volleyball, cross country,
basketball, track, FBLA, and FCCLA. During her
years of track and cross country, she has attended
several State Track Meets and State Cross Country
Meets. She was also a statistician for football for
the past four seasons. She was recently named to
the Acaedemic All State Football Team. Haley enjoys riding horse and boating in the
free time. Haley’s favorite food is steak and her
favorite beverage is diet coke. Her favorite movie
is Despicable Me, and her favorite T.V. show is
Friday Night Lights.
Haley’s favorite quote is “But those who hope
in the Lord will renew their strength. They will
soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not
grow weary. They will walk and not be faint” Isaiah 40:31. Haley plans on attending South Dakota
State University for Pre-Physical Therapy.
Haley has lived southwest of Canistota her
whole life. She has attended Canistota high school
for the past 13 years. Her favorite teacher is Mr.
Jolley because he’s a great teacher and makes class
interesting. Her favorite high school memory is going to the boys state B’s basketball tournament.
After graduation, she will miss seeing her
friends every day. Something that most wouldn’t
know about Haley is that she used to show sheep.
In ten years Haley sees herself married and settled
with a good job.
“I’ve only known Haley for four years, but in
those four years she has become not only one of
my friends, but one of my teammates too. She is a
very fun person to be around; she’s energetic and
whatever she sets her mind to, she accomplishes it.
Next year I am going to miss seeing her every day.
Do great in all you do!” said Abbi Klyaic.
