Susan G. Komen North Texas Race for the Cure 2017 Team Captain Guide June 10, 2017 5400 Legacy Drive, Plano THANK YOU FOR BEING Congratulations and thank you for making the commitment to be a Team Captain for the 2017 Susan G. Komen North Texas Plano Race for the Cure. By joining the fight against breast cancer in this significant and meaningful way, you are showing that you will continue to be a force in the fight until one day we fulfill - together - our vision of a world without breast cancer. Many women and men in North Texas do not have the means to be proactive about their breast health whether it’s due to lack of insurance or other barriers that prevent receipt of timely and quality care. Because of team captains like you who rally their team members and raise funds, we can invest in community programs that knock down barriers so that the families in most need of our help can get the life-saving education, screening, and treatment that they need. Thanks to you, we are one step closer to our goal of reducing the number of breast cancer deaths in the United States by 50% during the next decade. We want to help you reach your recruitment and fundraising goals during the next few months as we lead up to the Plano Race for the Cure. In addition to this Toolkit and the resources available on our website - komennorthtexas. org - there are several Team Captain Liaisons and staff ready to assist. FUNDRAISING As the leader of your team and a leader in the fight to end breast cancer, it is important for you to know and share the impact of fundraising. Funds raised for the Komen North Texas Plano Race for the Cure battle breast cancer on all fronts. Seventy-five percent of net proceeds are invested in local programs providing education, screening, and treatment to North Texans with little or no insurance. The remaining twenty-five percent is invested in national scientific research to find the cures for breast cancer. TIPS FOR SUCCESS 1. LEAD BY EXAMPLE. It is crucial that your teammates see and feel your dedication and enthusiasm. The best way to inspire your team members to raise funds is to start fundraising yourself. THE POWER OF Make a little add up to a lot: Ask 10 friends for $10 each. 2. ASK. Ask anyone and everyone if they will donate.
