resources that led to the Industrial Revolution taking root there. First, it had fast moving
rivers that could be used to power water wheels that powered factories, The north also had
nearby coal resources that could be used to power steam engines to power factories. Nearby
iron deposits were also used to develop factories, and last, the north had wonderful natural
ports that aided in distribution of these goods. Besides the natural resources, the north also
had abundant human resources. Most could not make a profitable living from farming in the
North due to poor soil, and short growing conditions, so there were more people in cities
looking for a better way to make a living. There was also a large number of immigrants
coming to the north that led to increased human resources. There were more people willing
to invest capital into businesses along with more banks willing to lend money which
increased the north’s amount of capital resources also.

What resources (capital, human, and natural) did
the north have that the south did not that made
industry grow in the north? – Kow, Khup, alba, Bu, Dai,
SaBee The north had human resources because the land was not good for farming,
so many people moved to cities looking for more profitable work. Also, immigrate from
Europe also provided a ready labor force. The north had natural resources like running
rivers to power factories, nearby coal that powered steam engines and iron that built the
factories. They also had more money in the north (capital) that helped entrepreneurs
have the capital to start new factories.
2. Why did slavery grow if the cotton gin helped reduce
labor of removing cotton seeds? – Nae, Matthew, Seth,
Tristan The cotton gin helped reduce labor costs and increase production of cloth in
the NORTH. This increased production increased the demand for cotton from the south
which led to the growth of plantations growing cotton. Because plantations growing
cotton were growing, so was plantations labor force – thus the growth of slavery.

illegal to copy inventions. Important inventors like Eli Whitney often died penniless
despite their wonderful ideas and inventions. Patents helped encourage innovative
thinking because inventors were finally compensated for their wonderful ideas.
5. Why did the British want to keep their factory

Carlos – Their innovative factory and industrial systems were making Great Britain
very rich.. They did not want other countries able to compete at the same level. Many
stole these ideas and brought them to America. America was then able to become very
competitive with Great Britain.
