News@Buxlow 18th March 2016 Dear Parents, Staff and Children From the Head ‘Holy Week & Easter Sunday’ assembly Year Five will tell the Holy Week and Easter Sunday story as this links into their religious education topic ‘Christianity’. Year Five will be narrating and Years One to Six, as well as the various school choirs singing in our ‘Holy Week & Easter Sunday’ assembly, on the last day of term on Wednesday 23rd March at 10:30. Parents’ are most welcome to attend, but space is fairly limited, as you will remember from the ‘Autumn Assembly & Harvest Festival’ way back in October.. Tina Leach Head The Virtue for Next week: Consideration What is Consideration? What is Consideration? Consideration is being thoughtful about other people and their feelings. It is thinking about how they feel. It is paying attention to what other people like and don’t like, and doing things that give them happiness. Why Practice it? When people behave selfishly and don’t practice consideration, other people feel hurt. If we play music to loud or forget someone’s birthday, we are being inconsiderate. When we are considerate, when others know they are important to us. We bring them happiness, and they feel like making us happy too. News of the week Reception EYFS have been learning about healthy food. Our packed lunches have no bad sugars and are now really healthy. We eat fruit at snack time and drink lots of water. Buxlow/Newsletter/ 1 We have planted cress seeds and are watching them grow. When they are big enough we are going to eat them as a healthy snack. In Maths we are learning about measuring. EYFS had so much fun in our garden area outside. We have dug in the soil, found and counted the potatoes and used the gardening tools. The water spray and watering cans have been very popular After reading The Three Little Pigs we built our houses using bricks. We then huffed and we puffed and we blew our houses down. This half term we have enjoyed our ‘Once upon a time’ topic and have listened to lots of traditional tales, created a huge beanstalk and made porridge. We will be finishing off this term with lots of Easter activities. We have already made a wonderfulEaster display. Have a super weekend from all the EYFS team! Year 1 This term Year 1 have been learning about seasons and different tools to measure weather, we have made our very own wind vanes which look fantastic and have also learnt different directions the wind can blow. We can’t wait to test our wind vanes outside. Year 2 This week Year 2 have been learning to tell the time using the analogue clock to the nearest five minutes, we have also practised saying the digital time. This is a very tricky life skill to learn so please help at home by asking them to read the time. Year 3 This week, Year 3 has been getting creative with their History, rehearsing and writing raps about the Roman gods and goddesses. We also compared it with how people in different world religions worship today, and wrote poetry about how people believe the world was created. It has been a very busy term and we are looking forward to showing off what we can do in our final pieces of work for some of our topics, including local geography and the art of LS Lowry – a personal favourite of ours as he came from Ms Stanton’s part of the world! Buxlow/Newsletter/ 2 Year 4 Year 4 have been developing their fine motor skills in their Art work, by pinching, twisting and tucking delicate aluminium foil around pipe cleaners to produce these stick people sculptures in the style of the artist Alberto Giacometti. Year 5 Well what a busy week we are having in Year Five. In English we have been studying play scripts in preparation for our march ‘Big Writing’. In mathematics we have been studying rotation, reflection, co-ordinates and translations. In science we have begun to look at the lifecycles of humans. Makes a change from primroses and robins! In Religious Education we have been studying Holy Week and Easter Sunday as part of our topic ‘Christianity’ and in preparation for our Easter assembly at St Augustine’s church. In art & design we have completed monochrome tonal drawings of St. Paul’s Cathedral using a mixed media approach using water colour washes, and various grades of sketching Year 6 We turned our attention to the Year 6 Business Enterprise projects in a big way this week, with the groups meeting in class for the first time to start assembling their business plans. In the Summer term, you can expect to see fledgling entrepreneurs building their businesses and offering their products for sale. Many thanks to Mrs Baber who visited Year 6 this week to present a lesson on Market Research, which was an excellent insight to information gathering and preparation for product launch.
