FAQs for Team Captains
When and where is the Walk?
Saturday, September 27
4- 6 p.m.
Herron Morton Place Neighborhood
22nd and Talbott Streets
Registration starts at 3:30 p.m. The step off is at 5 p.m.
What’s the minimum amount my team must raise?
There is no minimum amount you need to raise to participate in the Walk. Keep in
mind that the goal for the Walk is to raise $200,000, so every donation makes a difference!
Why is the Walk in Herron Morton Place?
We want to focus all of our energy, time and funds to help those living with HIV/AIDS in emergencies. Hosting a
walk in other locations can cost up to $8,000 and take more time to coordinate based on the city’s special event
requirements. The Health Foundation of Indianapolis (which hosts the Walk), wants to ensure the maximum
amount of funds go to support those living with HIV/AIDS for their emergency medication, housing, utilities and
other basic needs.
When do I turn in my team donations?
You can turn in your donations any time before the Walk (at The Health Foundation, 429 E. Vermont Street, Suite
400) or bring it with you on the day of the Walk. Individuals also can make donations online on your team page or
you can use this pledge form to collect and record donations.
What else is there to do besides walk?
While the Walk is only a mile, each year, everyone’s favorite part of the Walk seems to be meeting with friends, old
and new! Before the Walk, you also can enjoy live entertainment, food, and the Pet Pit Stop. There also is a
Wellness Fair, where attendees can learn about 25+ organizations, get a massage, learn about yoga, enjoy tasty
treats, and more! The Walk is family-friendly and pet-friendly so there really is something for everyone.
After the Walk, those over 21 can enjoy FREE BBQ at Greg’s Our Place (231 E. 16th Street) and go to the Red
Party at Talbott Street (2145 N. Talbott Street).
How can I get more people to join my team?
Here are few ways to expand your team:
 Invite people to join your team via social media.
 Send a personal e-mail inviting family, friends or co-workers to join you at the Walk.
 Encourage current team members to invite new team members.
 If allowed, share on your company intranet, website or social media channels.
 Invite people to join your team early and often, right up to the day of the Walk!
What information do I need to share with my team?
Be sure to share the basic information about the Indiana AIDS Walk (time, date, location) with your team. Some
other good information to share is:
 Ideas for fundraising
 Information about the Gregory R. Powers Direct Emergency Assistance Fund (DEFA). All proceeds from
the Walk benefit DEFA, which supports Hoosiers living with HIV/AIDS.
 Any special instructions such as a meet up time and location for the Walk, costumes or other activities for
your team.
