Jules Maxine
Jules Maxine has been doing stand up comedy since March 2014 and in
four months has 20 gigs under her belt, an Edinburgh show booked for
August and is a regular co-host on the Justin Lee Collins Show on Fubar
Radio.
Although she only started stand up this year, Jules has been acting and
singing since the age of 8, with performances at drama festivals in
London, Amsterdam and Switzerland as well as singing Old Time Musical
Hall at Great Yarmouth’s Wellington Pier. She has sung in numerous
bands or solo and for the past three years has run weekly DJ and Karaoke
nights at her own pub, as well as performing in cabaret events.
She has performed stand up to a variety of audiences including family
festival events and a gay bar, able to adapt her routine and comic songs to
suit the audience present.
Her Edinburgh show - My Sister Says I’m Special https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/my-sister-says-i-m-special - talks
about love, life, families, losing weight and things that make us happy.
Jules talks about the things we care about – relationships, sex, reality tv,
social media, winning the lottery, payday loans – with a sense of absurdity
and passion about the way families screw us up and the system screws us
over. Talking about the things we all share saying what we all think, but
wish we had said – laughter as group therapy.
In addition to stand up she has a number of TV appearances under her
belt including Four in a Bed and has done film extra work.

Get Fit the Qtapotamus Way
A crack team of Qtapotami will be conducting a special fitness class outside Ryrie’s Bar in
Haymarket Terrace Edinburgh on August 7th at 13.00.
Initiates of the First Church of the Qtapotamus will take passersby through an exhaustive
fitness session of eating biscuits and drinking fizzy pop, to make sure they too have a body
like Qtapotamus.
The urban dictionary defines Qtapotamus as:
Qtapotamus
An attractive female, who is overweight - people often say what an attractive face, suggesting
the body is not so hot!
Look at that (Qtapotamus) she's hot
The word is the creation of Jules Maxine whose one woman show My Sister Says I’m Special
is playing at Ryries.
The show – featuring music and comedy – takes place at Ryries Bar in Haymarket Terrace
from 2.30 to 3.30 every day from August 2-25.
The 42 year old comedian – who has recently been a co-host with Justin Lee Collins on
Fubar radio– shares her unique comic take on love, life, families, losing then gaining weight,
and the things that make us happy.
In the words of one of Jules’ comic songs – it’s lies, all fucking lies. Our parents lie to us (this
will hurt you more than it hurts me). Politicians lie to us (we will deliver what we promise in
our manifesto). Companies lie to us (try this diet and you can lose up to two stone a month
without missing food). Television lies to us (you can cook this nutritious and affordable meal
in just 15 minutes for £5). Adverts lie to us (get a loan at affordable interest rates). Friends lie
to us (you look lovely in that new outfit). Jules tells the truth.
During the show Jules talks and sings about the things we all care about. Relationships, sex,
reality tv, social media, winning the lottery, payday loans – with a sense of absurdity, keen
observation, and passion about the way families screw us up and the system screws us over.
She says the things we all think but wish we had said – laughter as group therapy.
All this plus her own comic songs commenting on life, the universe and everything and a
special appearance by the Qtapotamus.

Local Comedian in First Edinburgh Show
Jules Maxine from Kessingland will appear in her first one woman show at the Edinburgh
Fringe this year – My Sister Says I’m Special.
Jules – who has only been doing stand up since February this year – decided to dive in at the
deep end and put together a one hour show of music and comedy for the largest arts festival
in the world.
“I’ve always liked a challenge,” said Jules. “And this certainly is one.”
“People in the comedy industry say you need 100 performances under your belt before you
are fully mature as a comic. By the end of Edinburgh I will have had the equivalent of 100 of
the normal comedy club ten minute spots done in addition to the 20 odd I have already
performed in London and East Anglia.”
Jules, aged 42, who is originally from Eastcote in London, has lived in East Anglia for the last
14 years. She performed a lot of drama and singing when she was younger including
appearing with the Ealing Young People’s Theatre Group in London, Amsterdam and
Switzerland, and at the Wellington Pier in Great Yarmouth.
“I’ve always loved to perform but needed to get a job so worked as a youth worker, senior
manager in Children’s Services and then a hotel owner, but have now decided to go back to
my first love.”
As well as lots of Comedy Clubs in London and co-hosting on internet station Fubar Radio
with Justin Lee Collins, Jules was compere at the East Coast Recovery Festival in Lowestoft
last month. She has also been working as a film extra.
In the one woman show - 2.30 to 3.30 at Ryries bar, 1 Haymarket Terrace from August 2 – 24
– Jules talks and sings about the things we all care about. Relationships, sex, reality tv, social
media, winning the lottery, payday loans – with a sense of absurdity, keen observation, and

“What I want to talk about is the lies other people tell us and we tell ourselves. Our parents
lie to us (this will hurt you more than it hurts me). Politicians lie to us (we will deliver what we
promise in our manifesto). Companies lie to us (try this diet and you can lose up to two stone
a month without missing food). Television lies to us (you can cook this nutritious and
