Warm Up
Tag Game – players in two groups. High 5 tag. Choose 4 players to be taggers
in each group. If a player is tagged they are ‘stuck’ and to be freed they have
to be ‘high fived’ by another player. Change taggers.
Head up and dodge
taggers. Run into the
space.

Practice 1
Keeping Possession – one player from each team in the 2 end thirds ‘safe
zone’ and a 3v3 in the middle. Aim is to score a goal by passing through the
small goals. If a pass isn’t on the player can pass back to the ‘safe zone’ player
and keep possession. Progress the session so that the ‘safe zone’ player can
join in to create an overload.
Keep ball under control
at all times.
Accelerate in the
available space.

Practice 2
Receiving to Pass Forward – divide the practice area into 2 halves. Half the
players are on the outside as servers (red) and half inside the area (blue). Blue
player receives the ball from a server and then passes to a free red player in
the opposite half. Players work in their own half.
Progress so that blue players combine with another blue before passing the
ball forward. Add in a defender to apply pressure if there is time.
Prepare before receiving
Use different areas of
the foot.
No touch turn.
Communicate with
receiving player.
Play back to receiver if
the pass isn’t on to
maintain possession.
Practice 3
Ball Control and Receiving 2 – Teams are arranged 4v2 in each half with 1 ball
per half. The defending team try to win the ball back three times before
swapping roles. Attackers win by making 10 consecutive passes. 2 passes are
awarded if the players can ‘split’ the two players with a pass.
Introduce a trigger player who can at any stage transfer the ball to the other
team. Change the trigger player continuously. Trigger player can change the
‘trigger’ to dribbling or lofted pass. Other team must replicate what was
done.
