EX: “I propose to allot $2,500 dollars for the Student Council stamp.” - You
Second:
Someone will second your proposal and move to discussion.
EX: “I second.” - Senator
Discussion:
Senators will ask you questions and discuss the proposal.
EX: “Can you find a cheaper stamp?” - Senator
Amendment:
If a change to the proposal is presented, the change will be voted on. The amendment must
be seconded.
EX: “I know a place that sells stamps for $30.07. I move to amend the proposal to $30.07
for the stamp.” – Senator
“I second.” – Another Senator
“All in favor of amending the proposal to $30.07 say ‘aye.’ All opposed say ‘nay.’” –
Lina/Daniel
Voting:
If discussion last too long, or if there is no further discussion, someone will “move to
previous question” and Senate will vote on the proposal. Moving to previous question
requires a second.
EX: “I move to previous question.” – Senator
“I second.” – Another Senator
“All in favor of allotting $30.07 for the Student Council stamp say ‘aye.’ All opposed say
‘nay.’” – Lina/Daniel
Tabling:
If there is a reason that prevents Senate from making a decision (more research necessary,
needs to talk to Ms. Kraemer), the proposal will be tabled. Tabling also requires a second.
EX: “I move to table the proposal.” – Senator
“I second.” – Another Senator
“All in favor of tabling the proposal say ‘aye.’ All opposed say ‘nay.’” – Lina/Daniel
