BUILD
Background
The aim of this document is to help IT staff deploy a build using SCCM 2012 R2.
Imaging is covered by a different document.
Please note that as part of the Build process local hard disks will be formatted.
Prerequisites
The PXE ‘helper’ address has changed. If you wish to boot from the network to
start a build you will need to notify UoD IT (Networks) with details of which subnet
your Student labs are using. This will allow the Network team to make the necessary
change to your subnet.
If you do not wish to boot from PXE to build your Student lab then you will need to
boot all PCs from a CD/USB pen. A copy of the ISO you will need is available from
\\dundee.uni\media\apps\other\SCCM2012R2\Tools\BOOTv2.iso
Please note that at the moment the Staff Desktop is still using the old PXE server. If
your Staff and Student PCs share the same subnet then you may want to boot your
Student PCs from the bootable media. Another option is to have your subnet
temporarily moved to the new PXE server then moved back after your Student PCs
have been built.

10. This step is important. Ensure you give it a suitable name that meets the naming
convention and is unique. Duplicate names will cause problems. Incorrect naming
conventions will also cause problems.
Choose the relevant OU that the PC should go into:
SCCM Student = Student PCs
Staff = Staff PCs
Mobile = Laptops
Staff Virtual Machines = Staff Virtual Machines
Student Virtual Machines = Student Virtual Machines
Students = This may be removed at a later date

13. Clicking Finish will start the build process off. It can take between 1 to several
hours for the build to complete. There are several factors in play:

The number of applications you choose.

The type of applications you choose (e.g. some applications can take hours to
install)

The specification of the PC you are building. The more RAM and CPU the
faster.
14. Once the build has finished you will see a Deployment Complete summary. This
will list the time taken to complete the build and the applications that installed
during the build process.
Please note that if you DO NOT see the Deployment Summary then the build has
failed and this should not be used for deployment.
