• We will have loads of games like Twister, Ring Tossing and fun

January 2016
Dear Parents,
Happy New year! May 2016 be a year full of joy for you and your little ones!
December was great and all children enjoyed the festive season. We all loved learning all about
the colours on the UAE flag while we celebrated National Day and Santa was a big hit, while
we celebrated Christmas.
To start the new year, we kick off with a topic that we know all children will love: ‘Going to
the Circus’. The children will be thrilled!
Planned Nursery Activities

We will have loads of games like Twister, Ring Tossing and fun activities like
walking on stilts and facial painting.

Using fine motor skills to make a Cherios necklace.

Using pipets to paint cotton wool popcorn.

Recognising colours while exploring coloured rice.

Finding shakers in sawdust.
Links to the Curriculum : Mathematics - Numbers
It’s very interesting to notice that, around this age,
children start comparing groups of objects, saying
when they have the same number. They can also sort
items, by separating a group of objects in different
ways, beginning to realise that the total is still the
same. As a Circle Time everyday routine, we count all
the children in the classroom and then the boys and the girls separately. All children
understand that sometimes there are more boys and less girls, or vice versa, but the total
number of children remains the same.
Home connection
There are many ways that you can play with your little one to help
consolidate this learning goal at home. The game shown in the
picture is very easy to provide and it will keep you both happily
engaged for ages. Just take a few empty bottles and label each one
with a number and colour. In one basket, you can provide small
coloured items. We usually use pompoms but you can use any small pieces you have around to
fit in the bottle opening. Then you just ask your child to sort them into the bottles according
to the “instructions” in the labels. Please, make sure it’s an adult supervised activity to prevent
any chocking hazards.
Special days in January
Mon, 11 Jan – Dress up day – Clown Parade
You can dress up your little one with a clown costume or even
simpler, you can make a funny facial painting. The Elephants can
expand their imaginative skills by pretending they are at the circus!
