How to use Final Cut 10.1 or newer with Small Tree TitaniumZ The purpose of this article is to provide a step-by-step walkthrough of how to get your TitaniumZ and Final Cut up and talking to one another so you can share your projects and save them to the TitaniumZ server. Export a Share using NFS To export a share, make sure that NFS is enabled. To enable NFS, log into the WebGUI and navigate to "Services->NFS." and example screen is shown below of what you will see. 1. Make sure the enable checkmark is checked. This signifies that you can connect to the TitaniumZ using NFS 2. If #1 was not enabled, enable #1 and click this button. This will restart the NFS Service, but will not reboot the TitaniumZ, there is no need to do that. 3. Small Tree suggests setting this mask to 16 instead of 24 as this will allow for the share to be shared amoungst all computers that are connected to the TitaniumZ. 3. Simply click "Add" when finished, along with "Apply Changes" on the next page. for an example, we will create a path to /Tank0/Vol0/ as these come as a default on a fresh TitaniumZ, and we will set up an authorized network based on the default settings as well. Do this by navigating to "Connect to Server" in the Finder options. An example will be shown below with the correct path name. Preparing the Share Now that we have a share mounted, on the initial setup it is a good idea to set up some basic directories within the share. These could be things like user names or machine names to help manage your projects. This is more suggestional to help manage after the projects have been started, and isn't necissarily required. These can also be made later as more projects are made and new work comes in, but for ease Small Tree suggests taking a minute to begin to map this out. When this is created it will begin your project. You will want to create an Event inside of the new library. When you import assets there are two options you will have. 1. Copy the imported files so they now live inside the library 2. leave the files in place. Picking this option will leave the files in place and the library will only contain links to the original media files. By default Final Cut stores render files, cache files, and any optimized or proxy media files it creates inside the library. You can, however, choose to have Final Cut save this somewhere else if you would like to . Select the Library in Final Cut and go to the inspector. A picture of where to find this is shown below. After you've selected the library and then gone to "Inspector," you'll see the current storage locations for everything as well as a "Modify Settings" box that can be clicked on to change the locations. The Library How to use Final Cut 10.1 or newer with Small Tree TitaniumZ Page 6 How to use Final Cut 10.1 or newer with Small Tree TitaniumZ must be on an NFS share but the footage does not need to be. Now you can mount the main NFS share to each of your client systems. Project Locking If additional users try to open the Library on the shared storage that is already in use, they will get the "spinning beach ball" but no alert message explaining why. This is because the project is already open and it will not allow a second editor to write to the project while this is open on another client computer. The instant the first editor closes the library it will open. Please keep this in mind to avoid any unecessary slow downs in your work flow.
