Baby Think It Over Instructions Baby Schedule: 1) Sign-up in advance to take Baby home, after parent signature has been turned in (you may not ride the bus home with Baby so you will need to arrange for alternative transportation). 2) Receive wristband during health class period on the day you are taking Baby home. 3) Come to portable IMMEDIATELY after school. (Between 2:30 and 2:45). 4) Care for Baby for one night. 5) Record all information thoroughly in your “care log” 6) Make sure to keep Baby close during the night in case it needs care. 7) Return Baby to portable 8 before school the following morning(between 7:15 & 7:30). Remember if you miss your turn in time you will be responsible for caring for Baby until Health class 3rd period. NO EXCEPTIONS. Caring for Baby: 1) Once Baby begins to cry, you must identify yourself to Baby by holding your ID close to Baby’s back or bottom until it chimes. 2) Once you have identified yourself to Baby you have two minutes to PROPERLY care for Baby (Diaper change, bottle-feeding or burp) 3) If Baby continues to cry after all three have been attempted, it may just be fussy and need to be rocked. 4) Baby will “coo” when he/she has received proper care. Showering: You may shower with your ID bracelet on, but Baby needs to stay away from water at all times. Important Details: 1) DO NOT tamper with the electronic box on the back of Baby. The box will record tampering and you will FAIL the assignment. 2) You will receive “no credit” if the wrist band has been cut off, tampered with, stretched or is not located on your wrist when Baby is returned. 3) If you do not show up to pick up Baby on your assigned date, you will automatically have to do the alternate assignment. If an emergency arises you MUST contact Mr. Pittman via email BEFORE the end of the day on your scheduled pick up date. 4) If you do poorly on the Baby Think It Over program you MAY NOT switch to the alternate assignment instead. 5) If you receive a 100% perfect parent you will receive 20 points extra credit! Point Deductions: 1) Late Check in from 7:31-7:35 = -5 points 2) Late Check in from 7:36-7:40 = -10 points 3) Late check in during health class = -20 points 4) Baby not returned until the following day –100 points 5) Missed care (diaper, bottle, burp, rock) -2 points each instance 6) Head support issues -2 each instance 7) Rough Handling or abuse = -100 points until abuse paper is turned in Rough Handling or Abuse: If rough handling or abuse occurs, Baby will cry for an extended period of time and cannot be quieted. Rough handling will be recorded internally inside Baby’s computer system. If Baby is abused, the student must write a two page paper on Washington State child abuse laws, how they would feel and how it would impact their life to be charged with child abuse. The highest grade possible with the abuse paper is 70%. Failure to write paper will result in a zero on the assignment. Abuse paper is due by finals day, January 30th, 2014. Abuse Paper Criteria: Typed paper ( 12 point font, Times New Roman font type, 1.5 spacing, standard margins) with proper heading Research the laws pertaining to child abuse in Washington State Include reflection about how you would feel if you were charged with child abuse (your personal thoughts, feelings, etc) Include how it may impact your life after being charged with child abuse (relationships, careers, etc.) Proper paragraphs, punctuation, grammar, proofread, spell-checked, etc. Bibliography in MLA format (Minimum one source) Extreme Weather Details: If school is delayed due to weather, return baby 30-15 minutes prior to the new school start time. If school is cancelled due to weather, Baby is due back thr following day 3015 minutes prior to school start time.
