Down Syndrome - OG

John Langdon Down is
the first man who wrote
a description of the
condition in 1866.
 It got it’s name from Mr.
Down.
 In 1959 professor Jérome
Lejeune proved that it is
a chromosomal
irregularity.

Short stature
 Weak muscles
 Shorter limbs
 Wide neck
 Irregular teeth

Impulsive behavior
 Slow learning
 Short attention span
 Eye problems

Most of the time, it is not passed down
from parents.
 It is caused by a mistake in cell division
during development.
 There is usually only a 1% chance the
child will get it.
 If the mother is older, there is a higher
chance.

No cure
 Can be detected
before the child is
born
 50/50 chance they
could have children
 Their genes slow
down the growth of
cancer.


