Alcohol and Older People
Over 50s risk damaging
their health after turning
to alcohol to cope with life
difficulties such as
retirement, bereavement
and loneliness
Loneliness is a huge issue that affects older
people with over 1 million people aged 65
plus describing themselves as always or
often feeling lonely.
Research shows that loneliness has a
similar impact on mortality as smoking 15
cigarettes a day.

The work your service is doing is
brilliant, you have identified that there
must be older people in their homes
isolated and therefore could
have issues using alcohol as a coping
