Message to Members: New Report on Economics of Palliative Care
February 15, 2017
The Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physicians (CSPCP) is pleased to release a new report
on the economics of palliative care. The report has been sent to federal, provincial, and
territorial politicians, the media, CSPCP members, and partners of the CSPCP.

benefits:

The reports shows that strategic investment in palliative care can:

Reduce the cost of delivering care (30%)

Free up scarce resources in acute care, such as beds in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), for
patients who truly need them.

Improve the quality of life and quality of care of patients with serious illnesses and their
families.
The report is follow up to our Nov 2016 report called How To Improve Palliative Care in
Canada:

The “How To” document give specific actions that need to be taken. The new economics
document shows that palliative care is Win-Win-Win -Better care - Lower costs - Better use of finite resources.
Please join the CSPCP leadership in using the reports to actively advocate for better access to
quality palliative care in Canada.
We welcome your questions and comments.
