Nomination Form - Meadow Springs Primary School

Dear Parents and Carers
School Board Elections:
Nominations are now being called for positions on the Meadow Springs School Board.
The key role of any board member is to fairly represent stakeholders (staff, student, parent and community) views in
a range of forums that reflect both the Primary School and Education Support Centre position. Board members are
elected to ensure that the Schools position, and not necessarily their own personal view or interest, is promoted.
There are approximately eight board meetings each school year.
The Board has the powers and duties to make recommendations in the following;
 Establish and review from time to time, the school’s objectives, priorities and general policy directions;
 Planning of financial arrangements necessary to fund those objectives, priorities and directions;
 Evaluating the school’s performance in achieving them; and
 Formulating codes of conduct for students at the school.
 Make recommendations in consultation with parents and staff on an appropriate dress code for students
when they are attending or representing our school;
 Promote the school in the community;
 Approves charges and contributions paid by parents
o Extra cost optional components of educational programs
o Items to be supplied by a student for use in an educational program
o Any agreements or arrangements for advertising or sponsorship in relation to the school
 Provides advice to the Principal of the school on general policy concerning the use in school activities of
prayers, songs and material based on religious, spiritual or moral values being used in a school activity as
part of religious education.
 With the approval of the Minister or Director General, as the Minister’s delegate, to take part in the
selection of, but not the appointment of, the school principal or any other member of the teaching staff.
Being a member of the board can be and is an extremely rewarding way in which to support your community while
helping to develop and promote an outstanding Government school system. We encourage our Meadow Springs
community members to consider standing for election by completing the attached Nomination form. The school will
provide support to newly elected board members in the form training and induction when necessary.
The Board term commences on 1st July and each position is for 1 or 2 years or in accordance with the board’s
constitution. If you are considering standing for the Board you are invited to contact either Gwen Evans or Jennette
Armstrong on 9537 0400 to gain a greater understanding of the role of a board member. The election of board
members will be conducted at an “open” board meeting on 23 May 2017 at 12.30pm.
Yours sincerely
