Early in man’s history he became obsessed with self.

• Gen. 11:1-9 – let’s build a city and a tower

In the history of man there are few examples of
those who desired to be pleasing to God.
• Gen. 5:21-24 – Enoch walked with God
• Gen. 6:8-9 – Noah found grace in the eyes of
God

Other than Enoch and Noah we are not given another
example of anyone who was pleasing to God.
The example we are given is of the wickedness and selfimportance of man.
From the history of man we must learn the lessons contained.
• Eccl. 1:1-11 – What new thing is there?
If we examine our history we can see that there is no new
thing.

Man wanted to build a city and a tower and God
scattered man across the face of the earth.
Solomon built a city and a temple and the
Israelites became so enamored with their “city and
tower” that God eventually scattered them among
the nations because of their wickedness.
Today, what has changed?

We see examples of man doing the types of
things. There are those who desire to do evil.
There are those who want to build monuments
to themselves. The majority do not recognize
the truth of God’s word in obedience. There are
few who are the antitypes of Enoch and Noah.

Beginning in Genesis 12 we learn of men who
desired to put God first in their lives. We learn
from the examples of Abraham, Isaac, and
Jacob.

We can read of the thing that moved Enoch
forward and caused Rahab to make the
decision she made;
faith.

Our faith in God moves us forward and causes us to
make the decisions we make each day. We might want
to participate in the world but we don’t because of the
promise before us.
How much easier would our life be if we gave in to the
world and just got along?
Wouldn’t it be beneficial to our descendants if we built
some type of memorial of remembrance?

Just as those mentioned in Hebrews 11
demonstrated their faith we should do likewise,
not because we want to be remembered by
man in a history but that we will be known by
God because of our faith.

The promise is for all who obtain the good
testimony through faith.
