Newsletter May 2017 Dear Parents / Carers, Thank you for your support and help this half term. Sadly I have to announce that Mrs Daley is leaving Nassington School at the end of this academic year. She has promised to do supply teaching for us when needed. We will all miss Mrs Daley but wish her well in her new ventures. I hope you all have a restful, happy & healthy break. Mrs Allen, Head teacher. We are looking for volunteers to join our governing body, especially volunteers from the local communities. School governors play an important role in helping the school provide the very best opportunities for our children and local knowledge is of huge benefit in achieving that. Volunteers do not need to have any previous connection with the school, just a willingness to give a little time to this important community service. If you would like to find out a bit more about what is involved, please contact the school on 01780 782743 and arrange to have a chat with the head teacher or the chair of governors. Instrumental lessons 2017-18 We will again be offering brass, violin and cello lessons next year. Letters are coming out about applying for a space and our visiting teachers will deliver demonstrations for the children to determine interest. There is a termly fee and an annual contract involved and an instrument will be provided. MISSING SCHOOL UNIFORM There seems to be lots of uniform going missing. Can you please check that the uniform your child has, actually belongs to them. If not, please send it into school. It all looks the same and it is very easy to take the wrong clothes home. Thanks very much. Cluster Orchestra Our next Cluster Orchestra rehearsal is on Wednesday 28th June at St Peter's Church during the daytime. This will be our third and final meeting and will culminate in an evening concert at the church. Will all musicians please put the evening date on their calendars please and let Mrs Little know if for any reason you are unable to attend the concert. NEWS FROM WILLOW CLASS This term Willow class have enjoyed our transport and travel topic, through various different activities. They have enjoyed exploring our campsite role play area and researching different modes of transport from the past and around the world. A huge highlight for the children was bringing their bikes and scooters from home, creating their own highway on the playground. The children loved navigating their way around the road, just as much when being a pedestrian and using our stop, look and listen strategies for keeping safe. The children have made road safety posters which are being displayed around the village. Have you spotted any? As part of our literacy topic we have been looking at the book The Train Ride by June Crebbin. The children have been creating words banks for the different situations that Molly finds herself in and then creating their own story. The children have had fun on their own ‘train’ ride around school, handing over tickets to the ticket collector and getting on and off at different ‘stops’. They also enjoyed tasting grapes and chocolate to describe the tastes, smells and texture for their writing. LUNCHTIME NEWS As we approach the Summer term, please can you remember to put drinks into lunch boxes as the children do not bring their water bottles into the lunch hall. Thank you. TRAFFIC OUTSIDE SCHOOL Unfortunately we have to report that we have had complaints from people in the village with regard to traffic outside our school. On several occasions various parents have reversed out in front of oncoming traffic and accidents have been very narrowly avoided. Some parents are turning round by reversing out of the school’s car park even though their vision is obstructed by other traffic. A resident has very narrowly avoided being driven into by sounding their car horn. Please try and be careful and considerate when dropping off / collecting children from school – thank you!! Also it has been reported that people are still parking on the yellow lines outside school – please try to avoid them. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR COOPERATION IN THIS MATTER! Oak Class Our topic for this half term is transport and we have focussed on a different type of transport each week. We have labelled the parts of a vehicle, looked at how they work and found out how they have changed through time. We have also found out about Henry Ford and The Wright Brothers and looked at their role in History. Our role play area has become a railway station and we have designed and built vehicles with moving parts. We will be extending this topic after half term when we will be looking at travel and holidays in more detail. Health & Safety To ensure the safety of all children, can we please ask that all children do not climb and walk along the wall outside. We have had a request to ask that parents please do not let children ride their scooters up and down the alley way beside school or on the school playground. Apparently there have been some “near miss” accidents that could have been very nasty. Also dogs are not allowed on any part of school premises at any time. Thank you SCHOOL WEBSITE Please continue to look on the school’s website as each class provides a topic web every term to share with you what we are learning in school and the school’s gallery shows aspects of your child’s learning and achievements. Mrs Allen BREAKFAST / AFTER SCHOOL CLUB At Nassington School we recognise the need to provide a breakfast / after school club. I am absolutely delighted that Country Kids Stay & Play is going from strength to strength. Every time I visit the club they are doing exciting activities and the breakfasts and tea time snacks look absolutely delicious! A huge thank you to Mel and Alison for providing this fantastic service. Mrs Allen. Loraine Allen, Head teacher, Nassington School, Church Street, Nassington.
