Develop “canSpace Center do” attitudes and positive self concepts 3rd – 4th Grade Charleston Aquarium & Fort Sumter March 16 (Thursday) CHESS Chess Master Jerry Meyers, in “Why Offer Chess in Schools?” (2005), illustrates how chess, especially well-planned, sequenced chess instruction, addresses higher level thinking skills. We will learn to focus, visualize, and think ahead. Focusing Observe and Concentrate. If players don’t watch what’s happening in a game, they can’t respond correctly, no matter how smart. Visualizing Imagine what will happen. Students learn to envision a sequence of actions before they happen, shifting pieces in their minds — first one, then several moves ahead. SES Chess Club will be held every Friday during students’ recess time ( for 3rd 5th graders ). This is optional for gifted students if they want to participate Loads of Learning in the Gifted Lab! Monday 4th grade Critical Thinking Skills - Analogies, Primary Education Thinking Skills - Evaluative Thinking, Logic Puzzles – Convergent Deductive Thinking, Visual Thinking – Word Bogglers with Hints and Idioms Latin – Vocabulary and more practice with Latin nouns and adjectives STEM – An Engineering Challenge Chess – End Game Strategies Battery Works Tuesday 2nd Grade (1st Grade) Critical Thinking Skills – Visual Analogies, Convergent/ Deductive thinking with Logic Grids and Primary Education Thinking Skills , Sequences Creativity & Enrichment of Social Studies - Georgia’s regions and rivers Enrichment - Jacob’s Ladder Reading for 2nd grade.
