CHESS
Chess Master Jerry Meyers, in “Why Offer Chess in Schools?” (2005), illustrates how chess, especially well-planned,
sequenced chess instruction, addresses higher level thinking skills. We will learn to focus, visualize, and think ahead.
Focusing
Observe and
Concentrate.
If players don’t watch what’s
happening in a game, they can’t respond
correctly, no matter how smart.
Visualizing
Imagine what will
happen.
Students learn to envision a sequence of actions before
they happen, shifting pieces in their minds — first one,
then several moves ahead.
SES Chess Club will be held every Friday during students’ recess time ( for 3rd 5th graders ). This is optional for gifted students if they want to participate 
