QRDC FINALS ACTION SET TO HEAT UP QLD RACEWAY

QRDC FINALS ACTION SET TO HEAT UP QLD RACEWAY
Queensland's premier amateur motor racing series, the Queensland Raceways' Drivers
Championship will wrap up for another year at Queensland Raceway this weekend 3rd-4th
November.
The fifth and final round of the 2012 series will see over 200 racers in QR Sports & Sedans, Group
N, Geminis, Production Sports, Excels and Trans Ams take to the track in what is sure to be a
weekend of fierce competition across all classes, with drivers pushing their cars to the limit for a
shot at the podium.
Queensland Raceways CEO John Tetley commented, “2012 has been a gruelling year for racing
drivers in many categories with any failure leading to slipping down the ladder for Championship
points. As this is the final round for many of the categories before the three month summer break
there's a distinct whiff of 'win-it-or-bin-it' in the air. On this weekend there are at least 14 drivers
across the categories in contention for a series champion trophy. The closeness of the season's
results mean the 'go hard or go home' strategy is the only one to go with.”
Crowd favourites Callum Whatmore in the Nissan SIL80 and the ever spectacular Mick Apps in his
Kermit-green Holden Commodore will be lining up to battle it out for the 1st place titles of QR
Sportscars & Sedans respectively. Whatmore has been dominant all season in the QR Sportscar
class, while Apps will have a serious championship battle on his hands in the QR Sedans with the
return of Dwayne Taylor in his Holden Torana, who is now only 2 points behind going into the final
round.
Another 'winner takes all' scenrio is Christopher McIlwain in his Datsun 1600 ahead of Bruce
Forsyth in his BMW 2002 and Allan Saunderson in the Ford Cortina. Given that the QRDC round is
the Grand Final of the Black Trucks/Tranzmile QLD Cup for 2012 there will be plenty of on-track
action in the fight for the end of year trophies.
Brian Smallwood goes into the weekend with a strong lead in the field of 21 Geminis, followed by
Tim Boyle and Gregg Chesterfield respectively. Nick Rangeley is close behind in fourth place and
will definitely be a contender for a position on the podium at the end of the weekend.
Production Sportscars will be running the two classes together on the weekend and feature a wide
mix of marques including Nissan, Porsche, BMW, Corvette, Lotus and the ever popular Mazda
MX5's. Graham Lusty leads the 2B class in his ferocious Nissan GTR, with best mates Brian
Ferrabee and Henri Van Roden in second and third in their MX5's going into the final. The
showroom class is currently led by the MX5's, with class leader Russell Schloss, followed by
Brendan Strong and Jeff Hume all driving the nimble Japanese roadsters.
The grassroots motorsport series of the Hyundai Excels entertains spectators with three 'do-or-die'
drivers battling for the 2012 podium; Peter Nankervis, Steve Hay and Cameron Bartholomew. They
are fighting to be top of the points tally for 2012 and with only 81 points between them and with
plenty of points up for grabs in the final three races for the season, fans are sure to see spectacular
battles unfold throughout the entire field across the weekend.
US musclecars; America's equivalent of Australia's Ford vs Holden battle, will feature at the
weekend with Ford's only remaining hope, Ethan Lind in his Mustang taking on the Big Banger
Camaro domination of the Trans Ams series. Going into this final round John English leads the
Trans Am series in his Chevrolet Camaro, with Ross Grimes and 'Nifty' Nick Paradissis rounding
out the top 3 for the class and also running in Camaros for the year.
