Further Period of Fixed Term Employment A person employed in response to an advertised fixed term vacancy may be offered one further period of fixed term employment, without advertisement of the position, provided the position continues to satisfy the fixed term criteria set out in the Recruitment in Schools Guide. The further period of fixed term employment: is a separate period of employment, not an extension of the initial period of employment; can be for the same duration as the initial period of employment or for any shorter period but not less than thirty working days; and is subject to normal pre-employment processes. For more information, refer to the Recruitment in Schools Guide available from the policy page: Recruitment in Schools. Updating the payroll for a further period of employment Where a teacher or education support class employee has accepted a written employment offer for a further period of fixed term employment at the same school, the following procedures apply: Note: This process must be completed before the effective end date of the current vacancy against which the person is currently employed AND before the effective date of the employee’s Termination row. No action is required on Recruitment Online. Step 1 Identify the Job Opening that was advertised previously, including the vacancy end date, against which the further period of fixed term employment is being offered. Step 2 Add a Job Data row with the appropriate effective date. Increase the sequence number by one (1) where the rehire date has the same effective date as the termination row, then update the Action/Reason code using Rehire/Further Period of Fixed Term Employment. For education support class employees, Annual and Additional Paid leave is paid out on termination of employment. To take account of this a later rehire date may be determined. Step 3 When prompted; enter the Recruitment Online Job Opening ID, identified at Step 1 that this employee was hired against. eduPay will verify that the dates of the Job Opening are current (i.e. the end date included in that vacancy is in the future) and the person hired against that vacancy is the person who is being offered the further period of employment. Where the verification is successful, the expected end date for the further period of fixed term employment will be automatically calculated, which will represent the same duration as the previous Job Opening. The expected end date should be amended for a classroom teacher to include any school vacation periods in accordance with the policy as set out in the Recruitment in Schools Guide. Step 4 Save the Rehire transaction. The future Termination row will be automatically entered. Step 5 Adjust and save the new effective date on the Termination row where the further period of fixed term employment is to be for a shorter period than the previous advertised vacancy. Step 6 Place copies of all relevant documents on the employee’s personnel file.
