An A-Z Guide to Professional Services at NTU This guide brings together a list of the professional and essential services at NTU and links you direct to each service’s web information. There is an array of professional and essential services providing support across the University, and although all services have extensive on-line information available on NTU web pages, it is sometimes tricky to get an immediate overview of all services in one easy place. You can search the A-Z on line, but if you don’t know who to look for, that can be tricky!! Hence this document. We aim to keep it as current as possible. Centre for Academic Development & Quality (CADQ) A key service providing a central resource to NTU Academic Schools for academic governance including the approval, maintenance, innovation and enhancement of academic programmes. In addition, the office is responsible for helping to secure private, philanthropic, funding for the advancement of the University, its staff and students. Colleagues in the office can assist in everything from finding the contact information for a former student, through to helping to plan a communication to many thousands of alumni. Fundraising focuses on university strategic priorities, but professional advice to support local fundraising initiatives is available. These enable each and every employee to have their views represented, either through a trade union or their employee representative Employee Relations - endeavours to engage with all employees through various channels and representative groups. . Policies and procedures - Support the University to have a fair and consistent approach to managing and developing people, providing practical advice and guidance to staff about their own and the University’s responsibilities. They are all updated or newly developed as part of a structured cycle of review. The university has placed enormous trust in Estates and Resources to transform the physical estate and lead in providing gold standard customer service. F Finance and Internal Audit Devolved Finance and Purchasing Services exist within each College – key services for staff include procurement, evaluation of new business initiatives (such as consultancy or programme development), budget management, financial services (e.g. invoicing, payroll, report generation, advice regarding online expense claims & other aspects of NTU financial policy). Each College finance team supports staff principally in respect of budget management and reporting, purchasing and external fund application and management. G H Future Factory Team A team dedicated to helping external clients and NTU colleagues address the issue of sustainability in their work They can also help with graduate placements Green Impact Challenge Green Impact challenges departments to implement a number of easy practical actions to help the environment. The scheme is about empowering individuals and departments to reduce their environmental impact by encouraging, rewarding and celebrating practical environmental improvements. Part of the Environmental Team website Grant Capture Team Portal The Grant Capture Team works across the University helping academics apply for funding opportunities and engage with business. Their role is to develop relationships with industry and to explore possible routes to funding for existing collaborations. They offer support during the development of funding applications, have a background in bid writing and an excellent understanding of how to process a successful proposal. Please browse through list of current funding opportunities The Hive (NTU’s centre for entrepreneurship and enterprise) Although The Hive is primarily for graduates within the East Midlands region, and principally those from Nottingham Services provided by the Hive The Nottingham Media Company is one of the teams supported by the Hive Trent University who want to start their own businesses, we are open to hearing from anyone with a good business idea that will benefit from an association with the University. Human Resources (HR) Service is responsible for all aspects of resourcing, employee relations & reward, and development of all University staff. Devolved HR services as part of management teams in each College HR supporting the Colleges and Schools, and another (Central HR team) supporting all professional and essential services. Information Systems (IS) Provide a core service to all parts of the university: Manage the operation of all information and communication technologies for the institution including the network, servers, telephones and email including NOW Develop new systems for services Install and maintain desktop PCs and printers Provide copy/binding/print services on City and Clifton campuses An IS Business Relationship Manager (BRM) works with each College and another works with all of Professional Services J K L Legal and Governance Services The team is in 2 units: Legal Services provides a range of expert professional support to the University in various ways including obtaining legal opinion, advising on agreements and legal documentation, and managing Freedom of Information and Data Protection enquiries. Learning Development Team The team offers a number of services that are likely to be useful to academic staff (part of LLR) M Marketing Research, resources and staff development into students’ transition from further to higher education & student retention A range of study skills resources for both students and staff Co-ordination of student academic mentoring in 5 schools Expertise in teaching academic writing Co-ordination of the Welcome Week programme NTU Marketing is responsible for the development and implementation of all marketing activity for the University. NTU Marketing is divided between central services and the four colleges. Working in conjunction with the College marketing teams, Integrated Marketing provides NTU literature including prospectuses, course leaflets and other promotional materials. The College marketing teams are based within the four colleges to achieve College objectives for student recruitment and support for the academic team, including review of course portfolio and new course opportunities, competitor analysis, market trends, commercial activities and all aspects of communication. N O Nottingham Conference Centre This is the university’s centre located in the Newton Building in the City Campus – venue for weddings, events, conferences and private hire. Their work includes the provision of a central monitoring service for the University on the safety performance of Schools and Departments by safety audits, safety inspections and accident / incident investigations as well as the provision of advice on completing risk assessments so that workplace activities can take place as safely as possible. Save time, no need to queue at the Post Office - The University postal room is open for staff and students to send their private mail at a normal post office rate. If you would like to save time just pop in to one of our postal rooms and send your mail safely. The postal room at City campus is located in Trent House. Further details on the postal services website listed Print Services are available to staff and students at the City site and Clifton campus. Note – from Sept 2011, City site print services now in Ground floor of Chaucer Building adjacent to the main reception by the tram stop. Part of essential services, look here for information about collection and delivery. For staff, along with meeting your bulk printing and copying needs you will need to contact us for all your requests for corporate business stationery e.g Letterheads, Compliments slips, Business cards. To ensure that we meet your copy deadlines, it is important that you plan your requirements and contact us in advance, especially during peak times of year. You can submit your work by email, post, phone or in person. If you do need corporate stationery, please mark your email messages as Important. Purchasing Team The Purchasing Website holds lots of information for those involved in purchasing equipment, travel, and other resources. If you are in any way unsure of your permissions – please contact your local administration team (central functions) or your local College Purchasing Team (Colleges). Online booking process for international travel Reception Services Part of Estates, our role is to provide the first point of contact for staff, students and visitors entering University premises; meeting and greeting in a professional, courteous and efficient manner; and providing additional security support for such premises. Important note: car parking at NTU changes from end of December because of the City Council’s new policy on charging for workplace parking. Staff car parking will be severely restricted at both the Clifton and City campus – for further information contact your line manager or HR team. Q R Research Support Each of NTU’s 3 Colleges has a Research team supporting academic research activity within the College’s Schools There is also a separate Graduate School for all research students across NTU. NTU operates a central booking system for teaching rooms run by the Academic Office. To book a teaching room please email: REG Room Requests If you are unsure of whether you can book another room locally, please contact your administration team for advice, as not every room in the university is booked through the Academic Office. S Schools, Colleges & Community Outreach Team NTU Schools, Colleges and Community Outreach team provides central co-ordination and brokerage for links with external schools and colleges as part of the University’s community outreach and recruitment and marketing strategy. The aims of the service are to raise awareness of the opportunities that higher education can offer and support students through the process of applying to university. We train and support our students who engage with local schools and colleges as mentors, ambassadors and classroom assistants through our Students in Classrooms schemes. We provide advice and guidance on issues related to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. The City site has a state of the art fitness suite and exercise studio, in addition to a sports hall (with climbing wall) and squash courts. The Clifton campus has a superb eight-court sports hall, squash courts, a modern fitness suite, an aerobics and dance studio, an artificial turf pitch and numerous grass pitches. Wide-ranging exercise programme, with options including yoga, spin cycle classes and kick boxing.
