Blanc (EN-EL-FC), M. Brugger (EN-EA), L. Ponce (BE-OP-LHC), J. Casas (TE-CRG), J. Trummer (HSE-RP-AS), Date: 3 May, 2016 All slides and additional material can be retrieved from the indico link. Approval of minutes (pdf) Minutes of the previous meeting were not distributed. Radiation Monitoring – C. Martinella (slides) C. Martinella presented an update of radiation levels around the LHC for 2015 and extrapolations for 2016-2018, concentrating on the following regions: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Comparison RadMon & BLM Orbit bumps in Ion Run 2012 recalculation & comparison 2015 Global analysis P6: Dump Zone (TE/ABT request) Dose distributions in LSS7 (TE/VSC request) LHC arcs: Power converters (TE/EPC request) The analysis shows that: 1. Spikes are observed on some RadMons => to be checked by S. Danzeca. EDMS: xxxxxxxx 2. Orbit bump works well => confirmed by both BLMs and RadMons. 3. Less fluctuations are observed on the 2012 recalculated dose levels => allows to better appreciate the increase in dose levels due to the 25ns operation. 4. Dump zone: Analysis completed: Action on C. Martinella to provide data to R. Garcia Alia for FLUKA benchmarking. 5. Dose distributions in LSS7: analysis completed. Action on C. Martinella to provide report. 6. LHC arcs Power converters: analysis completed to be checked by S. Danzeca. Status of FLUKA radiation level calculations – R. García Alia (slides) R. García Alia made a review of the current and planned FLUKA simulations for the Injector Chain, LHC + HL-LHC and FCC. For LHC and HL-LHC, studies are ongoing concerning: For LHC P6, TCDS + TCDQ. Main regular loss impact expected downstream TCDQ (as TCDS showers are mainly dissipated in septa) on the kickers of the other beam. Action on C. Martinella to communicate exact locations of BLM readings in order to update the scoring and perform the benchmark. For P7, dedicated HL-LHC calculations are not foreseen. BFPP losses in IPs: FLUKA team will need RadFET measurements for benchmark with calculations. For SPS: Implementation of SPS dump design for LSS5. BatMon/RadMon/RadFet Data – S. Danzeca (slides) S. Danzeca made a complete review of the status of the RadMons in LHC and its injector chain. Extensive coverage of LHC with RadMons: Critical Areas, DS and start of Arcs, LSS, Experiments. S. Danzeca also reviewed the BATMON/RadFets deployment in the injector complex and c=remaining LHC critical areas: particular attention is paid to UA63 and UA67 for LBDS. Similarly in SPS BA6 for crab cavity tests, NA62, HIRADMAT, CHARM, etc… Since April 13th we have achieved full coverage of the SPS. Detailed information accessible from GIS and layout database. EDMS: xxxxxxxx Follow-up of Actions – Y. Kadi (list) Y. Kadi reviewed the status of the on-going actions. All equipment group’s requests have been put together in an excel document: 6 /16 outstanding actions have been resolved for LHC and HL-LHC 1/7 outstanding actions has been resolved for SPS 3 outstanding actions remain to be solved for PSB 1 outstanding action remains to be solved for Test Facilities A test campaign of the cryo valves is foreseen at CHARM (target value set at 10 kGy). Action: J. Casas is to provide detailed position of his critical equipments. Maximum dose to which the “Emergency Lights” deployed in the LHC will be submitted to, in order to setup her test campaign. Action: J. Casas to provide the previous radiation test result to E. Guillermain. C. Martinella has already extracted the radiation dose levels for “up to 5 years LHC”. BatMon/RadMon installation for the crab cavity test in LSS6 (SPS) has been completed. Concerning SPS BPM electronic racks, it was mentioned by C. Xu (BE-BI-BLM) that the BLMs in the SPS work the same way as for LHC. Action: C. XU will investigate whether they need baseline substraction. They are spaced by 32 m, hence it is necessary to check if this is compatible with the positioning of the BPM electronic racks, otherwise one should trigger a BatMon installation. Expecting maximum TID level of 100 Gy/year, which can be easily checked with the RadFets installed close to the electronics racks. Action on C. Martinella. E. Guillermain confirms that the tests at CHARM are being planned with a target value of 750 Gy. AoB Y. Kadi reminded the members of the MCWG of the forthcoming meetings: MCWG: May 17th RADWG: May 20th Possible topics for next meeting: HLD measurements in PS and PSB (2014/15 vs 2011/12) by HSE-RP Optical fiber sensing: possible test in the PSB by I. Toccafondo EN-EA R2E for the Injectors by J.P. Saraiva EN-EA RPL measurements for 2015 and comparison with BLMs by N. Mariani TE-MSC Reported by Y. Kadi
