We are going to add the “Go Cut” and the “Dribble At” in this section. Principle #3 – Dribble At: 1 will dribble eastwest at 2. 2 will pull his defender both feet outside of the arc and the back cut to the basket 3 ‘L-cuts’ to fill the top X. 3 will can also look to back cut on any overplay. Repeat with 3 dribbling at 1. DRIBBLING: Dribble Pro Series To improve coordination and ball-handling Players start on the baseline. Seven minutes on the clock. Players will do the following moves (down and back) in succession: Quick Crossover (crossover each dribble) Crab Dribble (between the legs each dribble) One Dribble – Crossover (push ball above lead foot) One Dribble – Between Legs One Dribble – Behind Back Two Dribble – Crossover Two Dribble – Between Legs Two Dribble – Double Moves The purpose is to go as hard and fast as possible. If a player isn’t making a mistake, he/she is probably not going at the pace necessary. Principle #2 – Post Entry & Cut: Repeat the initial Dribble At action. 2 will post up on ball-side block. 1 will make a post entry pass into 2. 1 will “Go Cut” high off the post. 3 will fill to the wing. MOTION READS: Draw & Kick Series Part 1: Elbow Drive Adjustment (Principle #7) It is important that once players understand the basic spacing and cutting purposes of motion offense, they begin to understand the reads and movement related to driving action. In each newsletter, we will share a read from the Draw & Kick Series. This month’s read is Elbow Drive Adjustment. On elbow drive: 3 (opposite, below FT) will back cut, 4 fades for natural pitch, 1drifts to 45 degree window, and 5 drifts to short corner. Repeat this with players understanding all 5 spots. You may select specific actions (Ex: Hit natural pitch for shot). Have players on baseline, each with a ball, to pass to the other 4 players for a shot. The Dirt Road Basketball League is a collection of over 1,000 players from more than 25 participating school districts @DIRTROADBBALL DIRT ROAD BASKETBALL LEAGUE WWW.DIRTROADBASKETBALL.COM
