Page 7 COOBER PEDY SAINTS KICK START THE SEASON WITH NEW PLAYERS, NEW COACH & GREAT SPONSORS The Saints commenced pre season training in early January 2010, under the guidance of new coach Carmelo Crisa. Player numbers at training this year so far have been impressive. On several occasions numbers have been in the mid twenties, with an even spread of the regulars with a smattering of new and exciting recruits attending. Carmelo has brought a number of drills and exercises across from his days as a soccer player and coach, which he believes will benefit the team during the year. The players are gradually coming to terms with these new drills, and his emphasis on hard work on the training track. The 2010 footy season commences on Saturday the 17th of April against Hornridge football club at Roxby Downs, with our first home game on Saturday the 1st of May at 6pm. The Saints have recruited some thrilling players from outside the area including Aaron Shakes, Bradley Amos, Ian Brown, Jamahl and Chad McKenzie. Two recruits from Oodnadatta namely Trevor Hannes and Caleb Warren have also signed on to play this year. Coupled with the return of Ron Waters, Bernard Lennon and Doug Barnes, the Saints are expecting to be very competitive this year. Anyone wishing to play is encouraged to attend training sessions commencing at 7.15pm Tuesday and Thursday nights. The Saints would particularly like to thank our magnificent sponsors who have come on board again this year, including OZ Minerals, Opal Inn Hotel/Motel, Sodexo, PIRSA, Johns Pizza Bar, Thiess, Aprilla Grids, Mantaworks, Mike Maylin Constructions, Umoona Tjutagku Health Service, Warrin Mining and Construction Equipment, Western Plains Resources, Euro Exploration, Complete Personnel, Coober Pedy Waste Transport, District Council of Coober Pedy and Boral Construction Materials. Over the last five years, the bulk of this labor has been provided by Tina Boyd, self-taught projectionist, mechanic and fix-up artist. Tina's full-time employment keeps her busy enough but every second Saturday has found her down at the Drive-In winding 7 to 9 reels of film onto the big reels, doing sound checks, cleaning and tinkering with the 50-year old projectors. Saturday night she shows the film. On the Monday following a viewing, Tina is back at the Drive In for 2 hours after work, rewinding the film, by hand, back onto the smaller travel reels, ready to be posted back to the distributor on Tuesday. Tina is a member of the Outback Open-Air Cinema Committee along with Steve Staines and Kevin Woon. They have also, over the years, applied for various grants to upgrade their equipment. For instance, the carbon rod lights of the nineties (a real flame that had to be constantly monitored and frequently adjusted) have been replaced by a brighter and more efficient xenon lamp. The equipment has been sourced, for the most part, from other, now-defunct, drive-ins. Film winding and rewinding from reel to reel is surprisingly complicated. The small reels come from a variety of other theatres and they have been wound and labeled, or mislabeled, in a variety of ways. They should arrive with the tail end of each film outermost. It is a relatively simple task to put the tail end of each film onto the big reel and wind it on. The tail of the next reel is spliced onto the head of the last reel (already on the big reel). Before each reel is wound onto the big reel the head and tail leaders have to be cut off and put onto a core for rewinding later. The cores are labeled and stacked. The film is then checked to make sure the print sides match and the sound track lines match. Sometimes they don't. Then a twist has to be put in after splicing. Each reel has to be checked. If the print side matches, put it straight on the winder. If the print side doesn't match, turn the film and put it on the other way. Tina carrying the lenses used for cinemascope screenings on the 50-year old Kalee 21 projector by: Sue Britt It takes two hours to wind a small 7-reel film onto the big reels if there are no complications. Sometimes a film arrives, like the recent Sherlock Holmes film, with the heads outermost. After all of the above happens, the whole film has to be rewound from big reel to big reel with a figure-eight in the pulley belt. Tina has sourced and read old instruction books about the Kalee 21 projector head. She has also learned the job through trial and error. Tina remembers times when the next bit of film has come on the screen back to front. Then, to the 'helpful' clamor of car horns, she has had to take it off, resplice with a twist, restart. Most of the projection shed drama, though, goes unnoticed by the audience. During a recent film showing everything appeared fine on the screen but a check inside revealed a pile of film on the floor which was rapidly growing into a mountain. The recently cleaned take-up gears were rubbing and building up heat. Tina's husband, Glenn stepped in with a spanner and squatted there, sweat dripping, manually holding the nuts and washers apart for over an hour. (It is often 40C plus in the projection shed but the fan is used to keep the sound equipment cool.) During the interval the spanner was fixed to a strut by sticky tape and the film went on uninterrupted. This is but one of the many bandaid solutions over the years that have become temporary or permanent features. The Drive-In is always looking for volunteers. Luckily, this year's new pharmacist, Robin Motherway, is an experienced projectionist. Robin trained in Karratha, Western Australia and also did four years as projectionist at Darwin's Deck Chair Cinema. Love, connection and support are vital for our health and wellbeing. Healthy relationships bring happiness and health to our lives. Study after study has shown that relationships have a positive effect on everything from heart health to age-related issues, whilst loneliness is a risk factor for physical and mental ill health. Becoming more physically and socially active is the main way to deal with loneliness and social isolation. It is important to maintain or reinvigorate contact with family members, friends, and neighbours with phone calls, emails, visits and letters. Getting involved in clubs and associations with people who have similar interests will build relationships, widen networks of friends and increase social skills. It is particularly important for aged people who, as a result of increased frailty, lack of mobility and the loss of family and friends, can otherwise become socially isolated, to develop a healthy relationship with their Health Care professionals. Therefore Doctors, Community Nurses, Carers and other Allied Health Workers all play increasingly large and supportive roles in the lives of the aged, corresponding to their needs. Even though every relationship is different, that is with our spouse, parents, children, siblings, work colleagues and friends for instance, there are basic ways to make relationships healthy. Here are Ten Tips for Healthy Relationships. 1. Keep expectations realistic. Healthy relationships mean accepting people as they are and not trying to change them. 2. Talk with each other. Good communication is essential in healthy relationships. 3. Be flexible. Healthy relationships mean change and growth are allowed. 4. Take care of yourself. Healthy relationships are mutual. 5. Be dependable. If you make plans with someone, follow through. Healthy relationships are trustworthy. 6. Fight Fair. Most relationships have some conflict. It only means you disagree about something but doesn’t have to mean you don’t like each other. 7. Show your warmth. Healthy relationships show emotional warmth. 8. Keep your life balanced. Other people help make our lives satisfying but it is important to maintain your individuality. Healthy relationships aren’t dependent. 9. It’s a process. Healthy relationships can be learned and practiced and keep getting better. 10. Be yourself. Healthy relationships are made of real people, not images. Martine Brooks Health Promotion Officer Community Health Tel 08 8672 5376 Fax 08 8672 3881 In conclusion, healthy relationships are vital to health and well-being and should be integral in every sphere of daily living. Gareth Evans says..“uranium producers should be responsible for the ultimate disposal of waste products that flow from them” An Australian government official is advocating storing nuclear waste generated by the country’s uranium exports. No wonder Parliamentarians have done such a good job at keeping it quiet. The Australian reported on Tuesday 6 October 2009 that former Labor Foreign Minister Gareth Evans, now Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s point man on nuclear non-proliferation, echoed last month’s assertion by former Australian Labor Party Prime Minister Bob Hawke that the country had to view the establishment of a nuclear waste industry as a moral, financial and environmental response to “climate change” by expanding its role in the atomic energy fuel trade and taking back all waste generated in foreign nuclear power plants derived from the uranium it sells on the global market. M Madigan 11 Burdekin Ave Murray Bridge SA 5253 ph 08 8531 2330 Evans’ proposal is at odds with the current policies of the Rudd government, which maintains that it will not import nuclear fuel waste, although Rudd’s Labor Party has yet to repeal earlier legislation passed by the government of former Prime Minister John Howard, which allows a nuclear dump to be opened in Australia’s Northern Territory. In defending his proposal Evans said that it was “difficult to argue with the principle that uranium producers should be responsible for the ultimate disposal of waste products that flow from them. It may be that in future it just comes with the territory of being a major uranium supplier — that more countries are going to accept that responsibility. That’s not the same as being a repository for the entire universe.” Source: Australia mulling nuclear waste storage, UPI. com, Oct. 6, 2009 News on Environment and Governance by www.alphabetics.info http:// www.alphabetics.info/international/?p=2769 OPEN LETTER T ON OR THERN L AND C OUN CIL TO NOR ORTHERN LAND COUN OUNCIL RE: NT NUCLEAR W AS TE DUMP L AND GRAB WAS ASTE LAND To the Northern Land Council Chairman, Kim Hill In your recent press statements, you say consultation has been carried out with traditional leaders of Muckaty station who approve of a nuclear waste dump site to go ahead. No-one has ever done that before for a complete scramjet flowpath.” Rob says “HiFire is to investigate technologies for highspeed weapons by conducting 10 flight tests at hypersonic re-entry and cruise conditions. The high-speed weapons are for global strike capabilities and HiFire is led by the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and the Australian defence department’s Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO)”. Professor Boyce said the project represented the first phase of a 20-year program that ultimately would include ground testing, the development of new materials and flight testing at Woomera, South Australia. “For the second flight, planned for early 2010 a twostage Terrier Orion sounding rocket will send the 105kg (231lb), 2.5m (8.1ft)-long, conical-shaped experimental vehicle into a ballistic trajectory. Speed on re-entry is expected to reach Mach 7.2. Partners in the new program include four Australian universities — UQ, the University of Adelaide, the University of New South Wales, and the University of Southern Queensland; and a US university, the University of Minnesota. “With a 50/50 cost share between its US and Australian partners, HiFire has a budget of $56 million in 2007 US dollars”. It also includes three international aerospace organisations — DLR in Germany, JAXA of Japan and CIRA of Italy; Australia’s Defence Science and Technology Organisation; the Australian Youth Aerospace Association; and industry partners including Brisbane firm Teakle Composites Pty Ltd, Cairns firm AIMTEK Pty Ltd, BAE Systems Australia, and Boeing Research and Technology Australia. The University of Queensland will lead a $14 million international consortium to help develop scramjet-based access-to-space systems, flying an autonomous scramjet vehicle at eight times the speed of sound – Mach 8, or 8600 km/h. In parallel, scramjet concepts will be tested at even greater speeds, up to Mach 14, in UQ’s world class hypersonic ground-test facilities. Scramjets are air-breathing engines capable of travelling at hypersonic speeds, greater than Mach 5. This Australian Department of Defence handout photo taken on May 7, 2009 shows the launch of a test vehicle as part of a hypersonics trial named Hypersonic International Flight Research Experimentation (HIFIRE-0) in Woomera, South Australia. Australian and US scientists have successfully tested hypersonic aircraft technology which could revolutionise international flight, officials said on May 22, 2009. Hypersonics is the study of flight exceeding approximately five times the speed of sound. AFP PHOTO Scramjet-based launch systems offer considerable promise for safe, reliable and economical access to space. The project has been awarded $5 million in phase one of the Australian Space Research Program — the largest grant and also attracts $9 million from an international partnership consortium. Chief investigator and project director Professor Russell Boyce of UQ said the project would answer key scientific and technological questions and build an industry-ready talent pool for a future Australian scramjet-based accessto-space industry. Professor Boyce said “the current flight programs conducted in Australia were tackling the fundamental issues related to scramjet-powered atmospheric flight, at up to Mach 8. The ultimate aim, however, is to reach high technology readiness levels for access to space”. “This requires scramjet vehicles that can operate at much higher Mach numbers, up to say Mach 14, as part of a multi-stage rocket/scramjet system to accelerate a vehicle to the speed required to leave the earth’s atmosphere. “No scramjet designs have been flight tested at these extreme speeds before now. “The gap cannot be easily closed in one leap, and a stepping-stone approach is required. Hypersonic International Flight Research Experimentation (HIFIRE0) in Woomera, South Australia. “Our flight will build on the hypersonic flight experiments that have already been conducted by Australia, and will fly an exciting scramjet concept at the entry point to the scramjet access-to-space Mach range. The call comes as Greens MLC Mark Parnell heads to Whyalla tonight to help formally launch the campaign by high profile local vet Andrew Melville-Smith to take the seat of Giles from Labor. There are reports circulating that the fuel leak has already reached the local water table and all interventions so far to stop the leak spreading have failed. “The culture of secrecy over this fuel leak must end,” said Greens MLC and environmental lawyer Mark Parnell. “The community has every right to know exactly how far this leak has spread. The explanation we’ve had so far from the company and the Government is simply not good enough, especially as new industrial developments are planned for the same site – all within stone’s throw of the extraordinary Giant Australian Cuttlefish breeding grounds,” he said. The Greens have officially launched their campaign for GILES which includes regional SA. Andrew Melville-Smith for the GREENS is a passionate advocate for his community and is offering voters a real alternative to Labor, “I am delighted to have such a high quality candidate running for Giles, said Parnell. “ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AUTHORITY ONLY A PAPER TIGER AND NEEDS AN OVERHAUL” SAY GREENS Greens MLC Mark Parnell has called for an independent review into the Environment Protection Authority, South Australia’s pollution watch-dog. “The trouble with the EPA is that on paper, it looks to be independent and powerful, but in reality it is a brow-beaten and nervous agency that lacks the resources and the political will to do its job properly”, said Mark Parnell, Greens MLC and former environmental lawyer. “The EPA knows from bitter experience that if it comes down too hard on polluters, it will have its authority taken away. This is what happened in 2005 when the EPA was side-lined by the State Government after taking action against dust pollution from the Whyalla Steelworks.” Thursday 18 March 2010 “More recent incidents of groundwater pollution at Point Lowly (near Whyalla) and alleged illegal waste dumping by government contractors building the Northern Expressway raise serious questions about the level of scrutiny given to major projects, especially government-supported projects.” “The community expects the EPA to be fearless in its role of detecting and preventing pollution. It has the legal powers, but lacks the resources and the courage to take on senior government ministers who champion major projects with little regard for the environment.” “An independent inquiry should be given the job of identifying what needs to be done to make sure the EPA is proactive and effective in all pollution cases, including the government’s own favourite projects. A good start would be a review of the culture of the agency to make sure that they regard protecting the interests of the public and the environment ahead of State Government interests”, concluded Mark Parnell. “Overhaul brow-beaten EPA” say Greens Coober Pedy Regional Times MA CHINE Q UIL TING AT MACHINE QUIL UILTING ***AFFORD ABLE TES*** ***AFFORDABLE RA RATES*** Do you have any unfinished quilts? The SA Arid Lands NRM Board would like the opportunity to clear these up so that your readers are not left with a false impression of the program. As Dingo Project Manager for the South Australian Arid Lands (SAAL) Natural Resources Management (NRM) Board, I was surprised to see the Biteback project described as a disturbing 1080 campaign to eradicate the dingo. The article provided some inaccurate and incomplete information which needs clarification. 1.Biteback was not instigated by the SAAL NRM Board. Biteback is an initiative of the landholders in the North Flinders area who were instrumental in sourcing sheep industry funds for their benefit. As well as contributing funding, the SAAL NRM Board’s role is to assist landholders to implement the project. sheep areas south of the Dog Fence in South Australia, and any option – such as shooting, trapping, fencing or baiting – which legally and ethically meets landholders’ obligations to control this pest is encouraged. Biteback is about encouraging all landholders to coordinate their collective dingo control activities in order to increase the viability of sheep production as a grazing option for the whole region. 4.Biteback also benefits wildlife. The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicine Authority (the Australian Government agency responsible for assessing 1080 registrations) support the continuing use of 1080 for the control of dingoes and other pest animals. Their recent review of 1080 considered the concerns of RSPCA Australia but concluded that “experts in wildlife management were unanimous in their support for the benefits of 1080 for biodiversity. For example, the Australian Mammal Society emphasised the critical importance of broad scale 1080 baiting programs to the conservation of Australia’s mammal fauna.” 2.Biteback has nothing to do with mulesing. It was created to address the increasing dingo attacks on sheep in the area. Some landholders lost over 2000 sheep in one year, or received only 70 lambs after mating 1500 ewes. Others were forced to abandon sheep altogether and seek other income sources. 5.Biteback is part of a much wider dingo program. North of the Dog Fence, we’re investigating whether or not livestock losses increase as a result of leaving dingoes alone. That project addresses the positive role that dingoes might have in controlling other pest animals like foxes and feral cats. 3.Biteback is not just about 1080 baiting. Dingoes (pure or hybrid) are a declared pest species in Yours sincerely, Ben Allen Project Manager - Dingo Management Dear Mr. Allan, Thank you for your letter regarding the SAAL NRM Board’s role in assisting landholders to implement the Biteback program in using 1080 poison to “control” the Native Dingo, both south and north of the dog fence in South Australia. I refer to Item 1.) stating that Biteback is an initiative of the landholders in the North Flinders area etc. A Tribal Totem of the traditional people south of the dog fence to the west of the Flinders is in fact the dingo Custodians were not aware of the baiting program taking place on their land. A media compilation from your office titled: Biting back - new program for Arid Lands' dingo control included the following: “With SA Sheep Industry Fund support, the SA Arid Lands (SAAL) Natural Resources Management (NRM) Board is overseeing ‘Biteback’, a threeyear program initiated by the North Flinders NRM Group to assist land managers south of the Dog Fence to coordinate their dingo control activities, apply best-practice control, and significantly reduce dingo impacts south of the Fence. This is a terrific initiative of the North Flinders NRM Group and the SAAL NRM Board is keen to encourage as many land managers in the South Australian Arid Lands’ sheep pastoral zone region to get involved”. The attached fact sheet clearly reads as an appeal to landholders to become involved in the 1080 program. It is also understood that the muelsing practice has caused a boycott of Australian wool, thus decreasing the number of sheep stocked in areas where muelsing is practiced. Amongst the points in the two files provided includes the following: “ *The dingo came from southern Asia and is thought to have been introduced to Australia by Asian seafarers 3000-4000 years ago”. This is listed as a theory only, A speculative concept, that through lack of discovered evidence is not verified. Wikipedia states: Dingoes are called an icon of Australia, which should be preserved (at least in its "pure" form), and its possible "extinction" is also compared to that of the thylacine. Where dingoes are regarded as pests regardless of their "rehabilitation", this attitude can degenerate into full hatred. Dingoes (no matter whether "pure" or not) are than treated as a scourge, that has to be eradicated. In such cases it is also deemed acceptable to kill all wild dogs if it would save one human life. Thursday 18 March 2010 There is also among bureaucrats the opinion that wild dogs are cruel towards sheep and cattle and therefore every cruelty against them is justified. Impact Reliable information about the exact ecological, cultural, and economical impact of wild dogs does not exist yet. Furthermore, the impact of wild dogs depends on several factors and a distinction between dingoes and other domestic dogs is not necessarily made. Cultural Impact Traditionally dogs have a privileged position in the aboriginal cultures of Australia (which the dingo may have adopted from the thylacine) and the dingo is a well known part of rock carvings and cave paintings. There are ceremonies (like a keen at the Cape York Peninsula in the form of howling) and dreamtime stories connected to the dingo, which were passed down through the generations. There are strong feelings that dingoes shall not be killed and in some areas women are breast feeding young pups. Colloquial name The most common name for this dog in the colloquial language is the term "dingo". This term originated in the early times of European colonization in New South Wales and most likely derived from the word "tingo", a term used by the people of Port Jackson to describe their camp dogs. Coober Pedy Regional Times, 21 January 2010, p. 9. DISTURBING 1080 CAMPAIGN TO ERADICATE CANIS LUPIS DINGO - THE AUSTRALIAN WOLF A dingo is a wolf (canis lupis dingo), not a domestic dog (canis familiaris). The top land predators role in Australian ecology is Australia’s 'Bush Policeman' keeping an ecological balance, particularly of introduced ferals. South Australia is currently in the grip of the 1080 Biting Back operation instigated by the SAALNRM. 1080 has been banned in Tasmania from last November. 1080 is banned in almost all the world with Cuba, Slovenia and Thailand banned it in 2003. Ecological impact Today the dingo is regarded as part of the native Australian fauna by environmentalists as well as biologists, especially since dingoes existed on the continent before the arrival of the Europeans and a mutual adaption of the dingoes and their surrounding ecosystems had occurred. Therefore it is assumed, that a disappearance of the dingoes may cause an increase of Red Fox and feral cat numbers and therefore a higher pressure on native animals. During studies it was found out that the presence of dingoes is one of the factors that keep the fox numbers in an area low and therefore reduces the pressure on native animals which then do not have to disappear from Dingoes are regarded as the area. apex predators and possibly perform an ecological key It could be proven that the function. countrywide numbers of Red Foxes are especially high Therefore it is likely (with where dingo numbers are low. increasing evidence from scientific research) that they Reproduction control the diversity of the Dingoes breed once annually, depending on the estrusecosystem by limiting the Coober Pedy Regional Times the reputation of the Australian Lamb industry overseas. RSPCA Australia believes that the available evidence indicates that, in general, the effect of 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) on animals is not humane. RSPCA Australia is therefore opposed to the use of 1080 for the control of animals. If, however, 1080 continues to be used under the auspices of relevant government authorities, it must only be used if all of the conditions are met with all possible measures are taken to avoid the poisoning of non-target species and the supply of 1080 is only issued as a premixed bait by the relevant state authority and such issue and use is carried out as outlined in current state legislation and according to best practice techniques. cycle of the females who, according to most sources, only come in heat once per year. Penrhyn was discovered in 1995 as part of the South Australian Exploration Initiative and was later explored by the South Australian Steel and Energy (SASE) joint venture. It lies within the Arckaringa Basin and its coal quality is generally similar to other Arckaringa Basin coals. In addition to the known coal deposit, the two tenements subject to the option agreement also have potential for the discovery of iron ore deposits, iron oxide copper gold deposits, and uranium. The deposit lies within the Arckaringa Basin and the quality of the sub-bituminous coal is reported to be generally similar to other Arckaringa Basin coals, such as Lake Phillipson. The Penrhyn trough is 25 kilometres long by 5 kilometres wide and drilling by PIRSA (formerly known as MESA) has shown that the deposit contains up to four major and several minor coal seams that in places make up a cumulative thickness of up to 15.5 metres. The relatively flat lying coal seams lie at depths ranging between 70 and 130 metres beneath a 60 metre thick sequence of Eromanga Basin sediments and surficial cover. The exploration target at Mount Penrhyn is in the range from 250 to 350 million tonnes of coal. This exploration target is based on the currently available drill hole and coal quality data and is conceptual in nature. There has been insufficient exploration to define a coal resource, and it is uncertain if further exploration will result in the determination of a coal resource. The extent of previous drilling and the locations of the holes now being drilled at Penrhyn are shown in Figure 2. Past holes have focussed on defining the coal basin along its length, but there have been no holes drilled to test its continuity across the basin which is the objective of the current program. EL 3336 that contains Penrhyn is not thought to be in a high investment risk part of the Woomera Prohibited Area, though confirmation of this awaits the release of the Commonwealth’s whole of government review of exploration and mining inside the WPA. WPG does not know when this will be released. WPG sees Penrhyn as potentially an ideal feedstock for one of the emerging clean coal technologies that will increase the specific energy (“calorific value”) and reduce the moisture content of the run of mine coal. This could lead to a new export coal industry. There are other potential applications, including coal for a mine mouth power station to add value to iron ore from the Hawks Nest magnetite deposits through the production and marketing of a merchant pig iron. When I was young I believed the Dog Fence was built to stop the dingoes from falling down the opal mining holes. You can find snakes in politics too. Here's me showing I can handle 'em. Just remember this and VOTE 1 - Charlie-Paris With the state election coming up I thought about what needs attention. There are definitely some serious issues for dogs that need to be looked into. In towns, we are not allowed to run around off the leash. Not allowed on many beaches, except at certain times. Not allowed in schools – where the best snacks can be found at recess and lunchtimes. There are way too many ‘not alloweds’ for us dogs! My crazy border collie friend Peg and I are forming a political party to fight for a better deal for dogs. It is called the “DABAD” party. DABAD stands for – Dogs Against Baths And Diets. Peg and I are “running-mates”. I was lied to!! The fence is to protect sheep from dingoes. There has to be a better So mis-understood. This dingo just loves a rabbit sandwich. Sometimes way! As a member of you have to chase a sheep or two out of the way to get the rabbit.. “I’ll Government, I would say support laws that promote individuality”, says Charlie-Paris” – ‘Toughen up sheep’ and - ‘any dingo harassing sheep will be punished with a bath’! I will take a tough ‘zero tolerance’ stance on cats. SomeThere, simple. Problem solved! one has to put these uppity creatures in their place. Dingoes in this electorate told me they have never been inside a house and don’t even know what a comfy lounge is! This is inequality and needs changing. Alongside the fruit-fly inspection points will be flea and tick checkpoints so we can be itch-free in SA. Dingoes need recognition and thanks for their work in rabbit control. They have done a better job than Mixy and Colici virus combined. I’ve eaten one rabbit in my life, so I feel I have done my bit. We will create a workplace agreement policy including flexi time, sick pay with a Vet certificate, overtime and annual leave, with leave loading. Not forgetting the much talked about maternity leave. Be they farm dogs, police dogs, guide dogs, all working dogs need to think about their retirement package. Mr Nick Xenophon stood up for what he believed in and started the ‘No Pokies’ Party. So Peg and I will follow his lead and I am sure many of you dogs out there agree we deserve the right to say NO to baths and NO to diets. I’ve heard in the past dogs owned opal mining claims. I will bring this back. Mr. Rann and Ms. Redmond have had plenty of time to do the right thing by dogs but neither have contacted me. They can’t say their policies are complete without dog friendly changes being part of their campaign. This is only the beginning. Next will be a law that allows us into schools, so we can help the kiddies with their food and playtime. It is a win for the children and a win for us dogs. Everyone knows that interaction with dogs can help teach a child responsibility, patience, compassion and sharing of food. As a Designer Dog I represent all breeds and hope to serve you in Government to get a better deal for dogs. Look for Peg or me at your polling booth on the 20th. We are all too happy to discuss what is under your collar and what we can do about it for you. Always one for equal rights, here I am in my younger days 'tearing down the wall', or dog fence at least.. Woof Woof, Charlie Paris (MP)? [email protected] VOTE 1: Charlie-Paris Services Available to the Outback Thursday 18 March 2010 Woof Woof,. Charlie Paris. Written and authorised by Charlie Paris for the Dogs against Baths and Diets Party. Supported by Good Canine Citizens . My Editor just rang to share a small fact: dogs don’t vote! Wassat? Waddya mean dogs don’t vote? Peg!! This is a disaster. What can we do, I need to think about this. I’ll be on my comfy lounge if anyone needs me. Peg, have you ever considered running for local council? STREAKY BAY Coober Pedy Regional Times Page 15 CLASSIFIEDS & ADVERTISING Deadline for Classified Material is Friday 5 pm prior to publishing.
