This WE8S MR1 (Windows Embedded 8 Standard) v10.02 Build 913 is 64bit image for Z90D8, Z90Q8, D90D8 & D90Q8 platforms. This release provides support many new features. This release also consists of fixes for some of the issues reported internally and by the customers. Version and Build V10.02, Build 913 Release Date June 5th, 2015 Previous Versions Hardware (SP2 Platforms) Version Z90D8, Z90Q8, D90Q8 907 D90D8 908 Importance Dell Wyse recommends applying this update during your next scheduled update cycle. The update contains major feature enhancements or changes that help keep your system software current and compatible with other system modules. Requirements/Prerequisites Builds for the respective platforms can be pushed only to the respective clients. Builds can be pushed using WDM 5.0 MR2 or higher with recommended Hotfix as per WDM Admin Guide. Installation Instructions Extract build in .exe format using 7Zip (compressed format; Merlin format - no .i2d image). Due to the size of the image, 7Zip cannot directly uncompress the image. You need to right click on the .exe, select 7Zip, and extract. Note- Builds can be pulled and pushed using Dell WDM 5.0 MR 2 or higher. New Features Dell Wyse Windows WES7 Feature Release 5 Page 3 of 22 The new features included in this release are: 1. Flash.sys Hostname Calculation and Preservation – Option to enable and disable Hostname Calculation in flash.sys Customers get an option to disable or enable Host Name Calculation. Altering the MAC ID for a client doesn’t perform a Host Name Calculation. Rest of the logic and flow remains the same as older flash.sys implementation If a host name calculation is required after a change in MAC ID (NIC card change), use MINWITHNET. 2. Event Viewer log preservation (Option to enable and disable preservation of Event viewer logs) Provides an option to enable or disable Event log saving while Write Filter (UWF or FBWF) is on. This feature allows collecting event logs for debugging or analysis. 3. Dell Client Application (Replacement for Client Information application with new UI) This application contains additional fields for accessing and configuring Custom Fields, RAM Disk, Auto Logon, C-A-D MAP tool and System Short Cuts. Note: RAM disk Size set to 512 by default in the build. 4. Premium Codecs The Premium codecs from Microsoft which are part of builds are listed below. Codecs in BOLD were already part of WE8S first release MPEG-2 Audio and Video Encoder (license required) Microsoft Dolby audio decoder (AC-3, E-AC-3) (license required) Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder (MPEG-2, AAC) (license required) Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder (MPEG-2, H.264) (license required) MPEG Layer-3 Audio Codecs (MP3) (license required) MPEG-4 Decoders (license required) Windows Media Video Codecs (VC-1) (license required) Dell Wyse Windows WES7 Feature Release 5 Page 4 of 22 5. Ericom Web Connect Ericom web connect client v5.8.0 is an application which on initializing will download the application files & executable files from the Ericom web connect server. For more information, refer to www.ericom.com/doc/TechnicalReferences/PTWC_Manual.pdf This document will provide information about server and client architecture. 6. Admin Guide on “Admin” Desktop The admin guide is in .html format. All related files are available in C:\windows\setup\help folder and the shortcut to the file is on “Admin” desktop. OS Architecture WE8S (64bit) Image structure All WE8S (64bit) builds are in Merlin format and of 16GB size. All builds have 5 partitions – 100 MB Merlin, 300 MB Windows Recovery, 100MB EFI System, 128 MB MSR and the remaining as OS partition. 128MB MSR partition will not be visible in Disk Manager. Partition structure is based on the GPT partition table. 100 MB EFI system partition is a FAT32 displayed without the Drive Letter and file system property in Disk Management. 100 MB EFI system partition contains Merlin BA (Boot Agent). WSI-Builds can be pulled and pushed using WSI. PXE push/pull through WSI is not supported by default; Boot Mode is set to UEFI in BIOS and requires change in the BIOS settings. Boot mode must be changed to Legacy in BIOS to support PXE pull/push. If the pull is performed using PXE, boot mode sets to Legacy in BIOS and the WE8S 64 bit OS will not restart by default in an imaged client as it requires UEFI as the Boot mode. Manual intervention is needed to change the boot mode from Legacy to UEFI in BIOS. So, PXE pull is not recommended. WDM- Only Non-PXE image push is supported for Z90D8, D90D8, and Z90Q8 & D90Q8 USB- Not Tested as tool is not supported for Image Push. For more detail on imaging for platforms Z90D8, D90D8, Z90Q8 & D90Q8, refer the following table: Imaging Tool Push/Pull Supported Dell Wyse Windows WES7 Feature Release 5 Not Comment Supported Page 5 of 22 WSI Push Pull PXE (with PXE Legacy Boot (Native Mode) UEFI) In case of new flash without having merlin non-PXE Non-PXE (Native UEFI) In case of device already having merlin non-PXE and bios has been set for UEFI mode. PXE (with PXE Legacy Boot (Native Mode) UEFI) WSI pull (Legacy Boot Mode) will not pull bios with UEFI mode/secure boot mode enabled. Please make sure to enable UEFI/Secure boot and pull the image using merlin-non-PXE. Non-PXE (Native UEFI) WDM USB Imaging Push Non-PXE (Native UEFI) PXE (Legacy) Pull Non-PXE (Native UEFI) PXE (Legacy) Push/pull Not supported PXE (Legacy) Images are supported only with 4 GB RAM/16 GB Flash Combinations. Image (Build package) files are in compressed format. By default, OS Files/folders and C drive are in compressed state. Therefore, any files/folders will be compressed later. WE8S (64bit) Build behavior Post Script Behavior: Introduced an extra restart after installation of all driver applications in the post script phase in order to ensure proper functionality of the installed applications in the build. So, there are two restarts in post script phase. Dell Wyse Windows WES7 Feature Release 5 Page 6 of 22 Write Filter: Unified Write Filter (UWF) & File Based Write Filter (FBWF) with UWF as the primary write filter. UWF cache size is 512 MB FBWF cache size is 512 MB UWF notification area settings modified to include default settings for warning notification. The following folder/files are in the UWF & FBWF exclusion list to support their respective features. UWF exclusions \Program Files\Windows Defender \Program Files(x86)\Windows Defender \Windows\WindowsUpdate.log \Windows\Temp\MpCmdRun.log \ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender \Users\User\AppData\LocalLow \Users\Administrator\AppData\LocalLow \WebConnect \Program Files\Ericom PowerTerm Webconnect \Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Ericom \Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Ericom \Wyse\WCM\ConfigMgmt \Regfdata FBWF exclusions \WebConnect \Program Files\Ericom PowerTerm Webconnect \Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Ericom \Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Ericom Dell Wyse Windows WES7 Feature Release 5 Page 7 of 22 \Windows\CCM\ServiceData \Windows\SMSCFG.ini \Windows\CCM\Ccmstore.sdf \Windows\StateMessageStore.sdf \Windows\InventoryStore.sdf \Windows\CCM\wedmtrace.log \Windows\CCM\Clientstate.dat \ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender \Windows\Temp\MpCmdRun.log \Windows\WindowsUpdate.log \Program Files\Windows Defender \Program Files (x86)\Windows Defender \Regfdata \Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\ \Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies\Low\ \Users\User\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\ \Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies\Low\ \Wyse\WCM\ConfigMgmt \Users\User\AppData\LocalLow \Users\Administrator\AppData\LocalLow Internet Explorer: IE cache settings – 100MB Temporary Internet files, cache, history locations are set to C: instead of Z: to support Metro IE & IE 10 completely. Citrix Receiver: Dell Wyse Windows WES7 Feature Release 5 Page 8 of 22 By default, Citrix receiver icon is available in the notification area. To set server URL, start PNA by using Citrix receiver icon which is present in desktop or start menu and not by clicking notification area icon directly. USB redirection is functional for all the users of the client machine with all published Xendesktops, irrespective of the setting “Simplify device connections for me” in the Xendesktop connection preferences UI. User Accounts: Admin – Administrators group User – Users Group No Built-in Administrator account is enabled Some Items present in Start Menu tool bar are not available due to design limitations. Application Launcher: You can use Windows 8 Application Launcher to start a Windows 8 app immediately after a user signs in to a Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) device and to restart the application when the application exits. You can configure Windows 8 Application Launcher to start different applications for different users. Adobe OOBE Package: Included Adobe OOBE Package to support ActiveX functionality in the build. It also resolves CIR 81025, TIR73228 & TIR80885. 1. You can now access HTML5 content on websites. This does not imply HTML5 videos. 2. It supports deploying of monthly Adobe KB’s released by Microsoft. 3. This package does not appear under Client Info and Programs and Features. To validate if it is installed successfully, run the following command from an elevated command prompt : “Dism /online /get-packages>pkg.txt”. This command will dump all the installed packages on the build. Open pkg.txt in notepad and search for “Microsoft-Windows-Embedded-Adobe-FlashFor-Windows-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.2.9200.16384”. This is the Package Identity. RemoteFX policies: Added tsusbhubfilter module in the build to support redirection using RemoteFX policies. CAD MAP tool: To use the Ctrl+Alt+Del Screen of a VDI application, it is required to remember the shortcut of that particular application. For example, for Citrix, the shortcut is Ctrl+F1. So, it is convenient if a utility in the backend does this for the user, instead of the user pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del always. Dell Wyse Windows WES7 Feature Release 5 Page 9 of 22 The basic Feature of the C-A-D Tool is to map the Ctrl + Alt + Del Keys of VDI Applications to appropriate ones so that it displays the C-A-D screen of that VDI Application. The following table shows mapping of keys for different VDI Applications which are currently supported by the tool. S.No VDI Application Key Mapping 1 RDP Ctrl + Alt + End 2 Citrix Ctrl + F1 3 VMView Ctrl + Alt + Insert 4 vWorkSpace Ctrl + Alt + End Driver Applications: 1. Only Intel Wireless and Bluetooth drivers are part of the build. 2. Not included ATI driver application as part of the build. 3. Dell Keyboard driver Software (KM632) included as a part of the build. This is a Software to Provide Caps Lock Status Indication on the Computer Screen 4. Included Dell Open Print Driver application as part of the build. Registry Filter: Added Monitored Key for applications to function in write filter enable state. The monitored keys are reserved for these applications and are not used for any other Applications. The path for the Registry filter monitored key is: “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\RegFilter\Parameters\MonitoredKeys” Applications Monitored Key WCM 2 SCCM 3 Even log Saving 4 CAD Map Tool 5 ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 Client: ConfigMgr support is provided only in FBWF enabled condition and in UWF enabled condition, native support is not provided by Microsoft yet. But there are workarounds to support ConfigMgr in Dell Wyse Windows WES7 Feature Release 5 Page 10 of 22 UWF as per the Microsoft link provided in http://technet.microsoft.com/enus/library/dn270483.aspx. WCM: 1. WCM applet Present only for Admin user. 2. During logon to Users WCM launch screen will come and go by itself in write filter Enable state. 3. InstallerLog folder has been created inside C:\. For more details on the above application docs refer SRS: https://mcbu-jira.wyse.com/wiki/display/TPGMT/WE8S+MR1+Release+Page For a few features, there are some additional supported documents available which describes them in detail. Below is the wiki path where you can refer to those documents https://mcbu-jira.wyse.com/wiki/display/TPGMT/Windows+Common+Documents Custom Build Image Behavior: WDM Image push fails on WE8S MR1 913 custom builds running the HAgent version 6.3.4.5. To solve the issue mentioned earlier on custom builds: Update to HAgent version 6.3.4.8 or higher and then push the image from WDM. Note: 1. To configure Bitlocker with TPM, Use group policy “Configure TPM platform validation profile for native UEFI firmware configurations” 2. Refer ‘Event Viewer Errors.docx’ for Event viewer errors/warnings 3. 2MB BIOS is no more supported as it does not have support for UEFI. 4. To update Windows defender definition, you may have to increase the Write Filter threshold value. 5. In custom start menu in the taskbar, power control options under Power will not support localization for languages other than English. 6. Dell Wyse keyboard Filter (DWKbFilterWatchdog) service will be in Automatic but will be in stopped state by default. We need to enable it when there is a requirement. Although Wyse keyboard filter service is set to automatic, it will not be started unless check the check box for “Enable CAD (Ctrl+Alt+Del) Map inside Client information to enable the Wyse keyboard filter. It will be enabled only after restart. 7. Microsoft keyboard filter and Dialog Box filter service will be in disabled state by default. We need to enable it on need basis. Not Supported: Dell Wyse Windows WES7 Feature Release 5 Page 11 of 22 No Built-in Administrator account. No ATI Driver Application. Windows 8 specific Features which are not supported in MR1 - Measured Boot, Fast Boot, Refresh PC & Reset PC, Antimalware, custom Branding. Windows store is not supported WE8S specific Features which is not supported in MR1 -Microsoft Windows Embedded Lockdown Manager(ELM) No Metro RDP by default in the build. This application need to be downloaded from windows store. Boot from USB is not supported by default. We need to enable this option in BIOS for supporting the same. Native PXE imaging support is not there in this image version as the boot mode is set to UEFI. 2MB BIOS is no more supported as it does not have support for UEFI boot mode.
