Displaying and Preparing the Writing Process
Hands-On Strategies Posters Set
Before displaying the Writing Process Hands-On
Strategies Posters Set, make copies of this Really Good
Stuff® Activity Guide and the reproducibles found on the
back of each Mini Poster, and file the pages for future
use. Or, download another copy of it from our Web site
at www.reallygoodstuff.com. The unique format of this
Posters Set allows you to display it in a couple of ways:
•
•
Separate the Posters along the perforations and
display the Mini Poster(s) in order below the title
Poster.
Display the unseparated Posters side by side where
students will be able to see them easily.
Introducing the Writing Process Hands-On Strategies
Posters Set
Review with students that a mnemonic device is a
memory trick to help a person remember information.
Introduce a few mnemonic devices, such as:
•
•
•
Roy G. Biv, which is used to recall the seven colors in
a rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo,
violet)
FACE, which is used to remember the notes on a
musical scale
HOMES, as a trick for remembering the names of
the five Great Lakes (Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie,
Superior)
Direct students’ attention to the Writing Process
Hands-On Strategies Posters Set. Tell students
that each Mini Poster displays a mnemonic device to
help them remember the steps in the writing process.
Ask volunteers to read each Mini Poster aloud, while
remaining students perform the featured action word.
Call on students to explain the purpose behind, or provide
examples of, each strategy.
Handy Hands-On Handouts
Copy and distribute the five Hands-On Strategies
Reproducibles before your next writing activity. Have
students store the reproducibles in their writing folder.
Explain that students are to refer to the reproducibles
to help them monitor their progress as they complete
future writing assignments.
All activity guides can be found online.
