(living or once living things) • • • • Dead plants Decaying plants Dead bugs and animals Living creatures and microorganisms Look at the soil in your tube. • Are all the particles of soil the same size? • Do you see anything in the soil that might once have been part of a plant? • Does your soil sample have organic matter? • Does your soil sample have any inorganic matter? Let’s fill your tube half full of water. • What do you see? • Where do the bubbles come from? Put the cap on your tube. Hold onto it tightly, and shake it gently 20 times. •Are the soil materials in the tube moving with the water? •What do you notice when you stop shaking it?
