Kitchener firm encourages a
happy and healthy workplace
In celebration of Healthy Workplace Month, we
reached out to one of our clients, a local engineering
solutions and professional services company, to
discuss the long-term commitment they have made
to the overall wellness of their employees.
With over 400 employees in Canada and the U.S.,
a happy and healthy work life balance is embedded
in this company’s corporate culture; in fact, it’s one
of the many reasons they have been named one of
Canada’s Best Managed Companies for 18 years.
It is this commitment to workplace wellness that
provides them with the competitive edge to help
attract high quality employees.
Offering flexible hours, onsite yoga classes and
lunch and learns on a variety of topics are just a
few ways this organization encourages a healthy
work environment for their employees. They provide
monetary sponsorship for employee sports teams
within the community such as: slo-pitch, soccer,
hockey, basketball and even ultimate Frisbee,
by offering a fitness benefit that encourages all
employees to get physically active.
They also encourage volunteerism and are a proud
sponsor and contributor to many charitable events
and activities. Their charitable giving committee
routinely funds events and causes that several
employees actively participate in throughout the
year. The annual summer barbecue, United Way
campaign and charity hockey game are just a few
ways they raise money in support of the many
organizations they fund.
But wellness isn’t just about physical health;
there are two additional elements that help round
out a wellness program—mental and spiritual
well-being. Everything this organization does in
support of overall wellness encourages a social
and inclusive environment; whether it’s a catered
lunch to encourage employees to join the companysponsored pension plan or a cold treat social on a
hot summer day reminds them how much they
are appreciated.
Employees value the organization’s focus on
providing a happy and healthy work environment;
over 50% of them use the fitness benefit and more
than 25% participate in the company sponsored
sports teams. For those who do not participate in
the fitness benefit, there’s an onsite pool table and
foosball ball table to enjoy.
By endorsing a happy and healthy work life balance,
this organization is improving the quality of life for
employees, their families and our local communities.
We care about what you care about.
