Main St., Salinas, California 93901 (831) 784-2259 B.E.S.T . 2016-2017 Program Policies Attendance Policy: Once enrolled, all students are required to attend B.E.S.T. every day. In accordance with the California Education Code, students are expected to attend the program everyday for the full range of hours offered- from Dismissal until 6:00pm. If your child missed school for any reason it is the responsibility of the parent to contact the B.E.S.T. program (by leaving a message in the school office) to notify staff that they will also be missing B.E.S.T. Inconsistent attendance and/or consistent failure to notify the B.E.S.T. staff of your child’s absence is grounds for dismissal from the program. Parents/Guardians must notify the B.E.S.T. staff with advance notice of absences when possible. Students should arrive to the B.E.S.T. program IMMEDIATELY after school. The program cannot be responsible for students who have not checked-in with the program right after school. More than 3 unjustified absences and/or tardies will be reason for dismissal from the program. Notify B.E.S.T. staff of absences by calling your child’s school office and indicating that your child will be absent from the B.E.S.T. program. Homework Policy: BEST Rules Students must follow all regular-day school rules and procedures at all times and in all locations (bathrooms, cafeteria, classroom, and playground). BEST Expectations 1. Be Respectful 2. Solve Problems 3. Make Good Decisions ** Toys, cell phones, mp3 players, or any electronic devices are not allowed during the B.E.S.T. program. They will be confiscated and returned at the discretion of the BEST staff.** Discipline Policy: Step 1: Verbal Warning The B.E.S.T. program strives to offer a full daily schedule which Step 2: Written Warning includes homework, academic and enrichment time. Early Release/ Late Arrival Policy: Students are expected to attend the B.E.S.T. program every day until 6:00pm. If, for any reason, a child is unable to attend the program every day until 6:00pm the parent/guardian must complete and submit a B.E.S.T. Early Release Form to the BEST Program Manager. Documentation must accompany the form. Early Release will not be considered without proper documentation. Students may be released early from the BEST program prior to the end of the program time (6:00pm) for the following reasons: 1. Family Emergencies 2. Medical Appointments/ illness 3. Safety and/or No transportation 4. Participation in other enrichment programs When a student leaves the BEST program early, the reason must be written on the sign out sheet. Only those individuals whose names are listed on the Emergency Card will be allowed to sign a child out from the program. Students may arrive late if they have documented dental, medical or counseling appointments. Student Release and Pick Up Policy: All B.E.S.T. students must be signed out by an adult (18+) The adult signing out B.E.S.T. students must be indicated on the Emergency Card. Students who are picked up after 6:00pm on two or more occasions may be dropped from the program or parents may be required to pay a Late Fee. Waiver to Walk Home For safety, we discourage students from walking home without an adult. This policy may be waived in rare cases where no one is available to pick a student up from the program regularly due to work/ school schedules. These cases will be reviewed on an individual basis. Requests for this waiver must be submitted in writing to the B.E.S.T. Program Manager for After School Programs. If approved, parents/ guardians assume responsibility once their child(ren) have been signed out of the program. Authorization of Photographs and Videos: During the year, programs of the Salinas City Elementary School District, its affiliates, or local media may be taking photographs or video of your student while in the program for their use. If you object to having your child’s picture taken, you must notify the B.E.S.T. program staff in writing. 2016-17 B.E.S.T. After School Program B.E.S.T . I am aware that there are several components to the B.E.S.T. program, including: Homework Help, Physical Education, Snack, and other Enrichment opportunities and my child is expected to participate in ALL components. Initial 2. I understand attendance is of key importance. I commit to having my child attend B.E.S.T. daily until 6:00pm, except in the case of an emergency or absence from the regular school day. I understand that more than 3 unexcused absences may result in my child being dropped from the program. Initial 3. I understand that removing my child prior to 6:00pm from the program can result in him/her missing one or more of the above components, including homework, and may result in his/her removal from the B.E.S.T. program.
