Lent Appeal 2017 KS2 Lesson Plans Westminster Diocese Introduction The theme of this year’s CCS Lenten Appeal is ‘Growing Together’. Over the six weeks of Lent, pupils will look at different actions they can take to grow closer to God. Pupils will: Week 1- Connect Week 2- Understand Week 3- Give Week 4- Reflect Week 5- Pray Week 6- Celebrate Pupils will also explore how schools across the Diocese are working together during Lent, trying to help local children and young people living in poverty. Using the teachings and actions of Jesus, pupils will be inspired to grow closer to God this Lent. These lessons are designed for pupils in Key Stage 2. An alternative activity Doves sheet and accompanying PowerPoint/Prezi is available for EYFS and Key Stage 1 pupils. If you have already received your materials, you may have noticed a dove template in your order. In week 5, pupils will be asked to write a prayer to God. In week 6, pupils will be asked to write this prayer on a dove. These doves can be used for a display around school, or if you are planning on joining us at this year’s Good Shepherd Mass then you can send them to us for our displays around the Cathedral. It would be wonderful if we could have as many doves as possible to help us decorate the Cathedral and celebrate the children’s hard work in fundraising for us during Lent. If you would like to send us your doves, please enclose the name of your school with the note ‘Good Shepherd Mass’ and send to our main office: 73, St Charles Square, London, W10 6EJ. Explain that pupils are going to learn about what poverty looks like in our Diocese. Seb, Paige, Hannah and Michael all live in the Diocese of Westminster. Each pupil will be given information about one of these people. Pupils will imagine that they are that person. They need to read the information that they have been given and each complete a budget (activity 2 in the activity book) for their family.
