On the 29th September this year one of Compass’s key strategic goals will be realised with
settlement on a 20 acre working farm three kilometres outside the village of Palmwoods.
With two main buildings including a caretaker’s residence, machinery sheds, nursery,
chook house, cattle pen, orchard and mixed gardens, the Compass Farm will provide training, work experience and employment opportunities to over 20 young Compass trainees.
There are plans for developing the site further, however CEO, Mr David Dangerfield, said,
“Our primary aim is to settle in to that community and plan carefully for the
future. We want the farm to work along bio-dynamic and organic lines and to
become a model for sustainable rural development as well as for integrated
employment for people with disabilities. There are opportunities here to forge
deeper ties with our community as well as government and corporate partners
in creating something very special that will become a legacy for future
generations in this region.”
The Compass Farm is independent in water harvesting and waste management and aims
to become self sufficient in energy provision inside the first 12 months. We wish to thank
all our supporters who have contributed to this successful outcome and look forward to
the years ahead as this project flourishes.
Celebration of Abilities Day - Eumundi Markets
Compass Staff and Trainees

of Abilities Day at Eumundi Markets on

Recreation Training
Hip Hop Dancing
On Thursday afternoons this term we have
been doing Hip Hop Dancing for our
recreation training.
We have been learning a dance routine that
has lots of different moves and we have to
try really hard.
Part of our routine we have to move our arms and say “move move shake drop”. Then in a different part
of our dance we move our body like a robot. We have lots of fun upstairs and we dance to the music.
After that we sometimes get to do free dance.

2010 Career Options,
Life Options Expo
Compass attended the annual
Career and lifestyles options
expo at Mooloolaba TAFE on
14 September.
This event is organised each
year to bring a wide range of
services for people with
disabilities together in the one
place to enable people with
disabilities and their carers
the opportunity to see what is
available for them in their
local community.
The day featured a number of
presentations in the main
Auditorium. One of these was
Compass Trainee, Erin, who
played a beautiful piece on
her harp to a full house
(below).
Break Up Day was a day of mixed emotions for staff and trainees at Caloundra.
Long serving Compass staff member, Fiona Williams, and her family are moving
away to take up some new opportunities. All of the Caloundra staff and trainees
enjoyed lunch together at the Caloundra RSL, followed by a farewell afternoon tea
attended by many of the families who have known and loved Fiona over a number
of years.
Staff presented Fiona with an original Luke Fitzgerald artwork and the trainees
presented Fiona with a parcel of quality handmade craft items.
Fiona was presented with her Compass 5 Year Pin at the afternoon tea, having
reached that milestone earlier this year.
We wish Fiona, Gar and family all the best and every success with their new
adventure.
In addition, other Compass
trainees performed in a
concert on the veranda at
lunchtime.
