Science
This half term the children will continue to learn about ‘Forces and
Magnets’. They will learn about forces in the context of pushing and
pulling, and will identify different actions as pushes or pulls. The children
will work scientifically and collaboratively to investigate friction, by
exploring the movement of a toy car over different surfaces.
Furthermore, they will conduct an investigation into the strength of
different types of magnet. The children will have chance to explore the
way magnetic poles can attract and repel in an exciting activity, making
their own compass and using it to find hidden items.
RE
This half term Year 3 will be learning about
religious buildings. They will understand that
there are often special rules about acceptable
behaviour and dress when visiting a religious
building. They will be learning about the
following religious buildings: Christian church,
Muslim mosque, Jewish synagogue, Hindu
mandir Sikh gurdwara and Buddhist vihara
Computing
The focus this half term will be to use the programme SCRATCH They
will have the opportunity to design their own game. They will decide who
the audience is; test the game and edit and improve it.
Art/DT
This half term the children will finish off
designing and making photo frames. They will
gain an understanding of ways in which
structures can be made stable, recognising
conflicting demands on the structure; have
designed and made a complete personalised
free-standing photograph frame, appropriate
for a particular person
Music
In Music this half term, Year 3 will continue to
focus on learning how to play the recorder.
They will continue to learn the first three notes
and play simple tunes
They will also have the opportunity to look at
different sculptures and try to make one out of
clay.
PE
History/Geography
Pupils will continue to learn all about outdoor games.
The children will learn skills with running jumping, throwing and catching
in preparation for Sports Day.
The children will also have the opportunity to learn the basic skills of
tennis. They will focus on holding the racket and hitting the ball over a
net.
This half term the children will be finish off learning about
Leisure and Entertainment in the 20th Century.
In Geography the children will learn about the counties of England. They
will investigate a country of their choice looking at: climate, landscape,
currency, people, and food, just to name a few. They will then compare
their country to England and identify similarities and differences

that your child:
 Attends school ON TIME, EVERY DAY
 Wears the correct uniform to school each day
 Actively demonstrates Grace, Love, Fellowship and the 4Ps
 Completes and returns their homework every week
Our new curriculum targets are as follows:
Writing:
Must: I can use full stops, capital letters, question marks and exclamation marks correctly in a sequence of
sentences.
Should: I can use most punctuation accurately, including three of the following; full stop and capital letter,
question
Could: marks, exclamation mark, comma and apostrophe

Reading:
Must: Discuss reasons for events in stories by beginning to use clues in the stories
Should: Children can discuss reasons for actions and events based on evidence from the texts
Could: Can read between the lines using clues from actions dialogues and descriptions
Mathematics:
Must: I can use a system to solve a problem to find all possibilities
Should: I can prove that I have found all the possible answers. I can check my solution follows the rules.
Could: I can list all possible answers in a systematically.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Home School Communication: I will be in the playground before/after school on most days if you need any
information. If you have any worries or concerns, please contact the school office to make an appointment with
me for a formal meeting.
Attendance and Punctuality: We have high expectations for attendance and punctuality. Make sure that your
child comes to school ON TIME, EVERY DAY. If you do not send your child to school on time, every day, THEY
WILL MISS VALUABLE LEARNING TIME THAT CAN NOT BE REPLACED!
Behaviour: We have high expectations for work and behaviour; therefore, it is essential that you give your child
a daily reminder about the importance of demonstrating: Grave, Love, Fellowship, Pride, Perseverance, Positivity
and Potential (4Ps) in everything that they do.
Uniform: Please ensure that your child wears the correct uniform each day to promote a sense of pride and
belonging in our school community. Children must wear plain, sensible black shoes to school (shoes with too
much decoration, additional colours or trainers are not part of our school uniform).
PE: Children will have PE every Wednesday (outdoors). Please ensure that your child brings the correct PE kit
(white t-shirt, black shorts/track-suit and trainers/plimsolls. Because it is outside this half term, please ensure that
your child is equipped for the weather) to school.
Homework: Children receive homework every Friday. Remember to ask your child to explain their homework to
you and support them as necessary. Please ensure that your child completes their homework each week and
returns it to school by Wednesday. If the homework is not returned on time, it will not be marked.
