1. On your computer, go to the website selco.lib.overdrive.com. You

1. On your computer, go to the website selco.lib.overdrive.com.
You can also get there by clicking on the OverDrive box on our home page, www.owatonna.info.
The screen will look like this one. Click on “Sign In.”
2. You’ll then see a screen that looks like this one. Type in your 13-digit Library card number (no
spaces).
3. Click on “Advanced search.”
4. Choose “Kindle Book” for the Format.
5. Click on the box next to “Only show titles with copies available” so
the box is checked.
6. Then click on the “Search” button.
7. In this example, you see that there are 919 Kindle books available to check out right now (the
number will vary).
8. You can browse through this list, and/or sort the list by title, creator (this means “author”), etc.
9. When you see a book you want, click on the “Add to My Cart” link for the Kindle Book.
10. Click on “Proceed to Checkout.”
11. Click on “Confirm Checkout.”
12. Click on “Get for Kindle.”
13. Clicking on that button will bring up a new window, in the Amazon website. Click on “Get library
book.”
14. If you aren’t already, you will be prompted to login to your Amazon/Kindle account now. Sign in
with your email address & password.
15. You will be asked which Kindle device you want to deliver the book to. Choose & click Continue.
16. If your Kindle is connected to a wireless network, your eBook will download to it automatically. In
this case: Proceed to Step 21).
If your Kindle is not connected to a wireless network: Proceed to Step 17.
17. Plug the small end of your Kindle’s cord into the device. Remove the electric plug from the other
end to reveal the USB end.
Plug the USB end into a USB port on your computer.
18. Return to your computer screen and click on the “Download now” button.
19. If you are not prompted to open or save the file, click here.
As instructed above, then choose “Save” the file. (Your save screen may not look exactly like this
one.)
20. Be sure to “Safely Eject” or “Safely Remove” your Kindle before unplugging the USB cord. This
command can usually be found in the lower-right corner of your computer screen.
21. You will see your checked-out & downloaded book highlighted on the Home screen by the word
“new.”
22. Go to the “Manage Your Kindle” part of the Amazon website if you want to do something with your
Kindle library books (such as Return them early).
23. This is what the “Manage Your Kindle” page looks like. Click on “Actions” next to the title to
choose from available actions.
