Ideal for those with up to profound hearing loss or manual dexterity issues, this portable receiver can be used around your home as it is portable. Once activated, the receiver sends out an alarm sound and illuminates one of four coloured LED symbols to show which transmitter has been activated. Items supplied with the Visit Portable Receiver Portable receiver Wall bracket with self-adhesive tab on back 2 x screws and wall plugs Alcohol wipe Please note: 4 x 1.5V LR14 batteries are required Orientation Front Position the unit so that the grill on the front is on the right hand side. This grill is the speaker. Just above these grill lines is a circle lens with LED’s behind it in a circular pattern. These indicate which part of the Bellman 868 system has been activated. Starting at the top and going clockwise these LED indicators are as follows: Red LED (fire symbol) - The smoke alarm is activated Orange LED (pacifier symbol) - The baby monitor is activated Green LED (door symbol) - The door transmitter is activated Yellow LED (telephone symbol) - The phone transmitter is activated To the left of the LED’s near the top is an LED, this is the power indicator. Back Turn the unit over so that the front is facing away from you. On the back of the portable receiver you’ll find the battery compartment on the right hand side. The pressure point of this battery compartment cover is ridged, just below the centre of the back. To the left of this, above and below, are two holes which are used for attaching it to the metal wall bracket. At the top right corner is a horizontal switch which is the flash signal switch. When the switch is pushed to the left, no light will be produced; if the switch is to the right the light will be produced. RET/FORM/006.001 2 Right edge On the right hand edge you’ll find two circular sockets towards the bottom. The top one is used to connect other parts of the Visit Systems like the Bellman 868 bed shaker (vibrating pad), and the bottom socket is for connecting a power supply (not included). Top edge On the top edge is a red rotating wheel – this is used to control the volume. Bottom edge There is a round test switch in the centre. Using the product Inserting the batteries Please note: This receiver requires four new 1.5 V LR14 alkaline batteries (not included). Slide open the battery by sliding to the right pressing the pressure point described in the orientation. Starting from the top left, insert the first battery with the negative end against the spring; then insert the next battery in the same direction in front of this. Now insert another battery in the bottom right of the compartment with the negative end against the spring; then insert a battery in front of this in the same direction. Now replace the battery cover by simply sliding back into place with the curved edge on the right. Place the receiver on a level surface or mount it on the wall using the wall bracket. It should be positioned where it can be best seen and heard. You can also take it with you. Please note: When using the self-adhesive tape it could damage your wall so care should be taken upon removal. Testing To test the radio link you need a Bellman 868 transmitter (not included). Press the test button/s on the transmitter as per your transmitter’s instructions. The receiver lights up the corresponding LED and starts to flash and sound. If a bed shaker is connected, it will vibrate (not included). A short press on the test button repeats the last indication. If nothing happens, see Troubleshooting. 3 RET/FORM/006.001 Default signal pattern Please note: Transmitters are not included. When a transmitter is activated, the receiver lights up a LED, sounds, flashes and the bed shaker starts to vibrate with a certain pace (not included). This is called the signal pattern. The transmitters determine the pattern, and the default is as follows: Your existing transmitters determine the pattern; the default is as follows: If the door or push button transmitter is activated the receiver’s LED will light up green, produce a door chime sound, flash (if set to on) and if the Bellman 868 vibrating pad (bed shaker) is connected, it will vibrate in a slow pattern. If the telephone transmitter (not included) is activated the receiver’s LED will light up yellow, produce a ring sound, flash (if set to on) and if the Bellman 868 vibrating pad (bed shaker) is connected, it will vibrate in a medium paced pattern. If the baby transmitter is activated the receiver’s LED will light up orange, produce a baby melody, flash (if set to on) and if the Bellman 868 vibrating pad (bed shaker) is connected, it will vibrate in a fast paced pattern. If the smoke alarm transmitter is activated the receiver’s LED will light up red, produce a smoke horn sound, flash (if set to on) and if the Bellman 868 vibrating pad (bed shaker) is connected, it will vibrate continuously. Changing the signal pattern The signal pattern can only be changed on the transmitters (not included). See changing the signal pattern for your existing relevant transmitter. Adjusting the volume and flash Adjust the volume to your liking using the red volume dial on the top of the receiver. Rotate it to the right to increase the volume and vice versa. It goes from 0 to 93 dBA at 1 metre with a main frequency range of 500 – 1000 Hz. Use the flash signal switch on the back of the receiver to turn the flash off/on (see orientation). Replacing batteries If the power LED is yellow when the receiver is activated, the batteries are nearly depleted. Please see the getting started section for how to insert the batteries. Changing the radio key If your Visit system is activated for no reason, there is probably a nearby system that triggers yours. In order to avoid radio interference you need to change the radio key on 4 RET/FORM/006.001 all your existing transmitter units. The radio key switches are located on the transmitters (please see transmitter instructions). How to change the radio key and pairing Open the transmitter cover (transmitter not included) and move any one of radio key switches to the up/on position to change the radio key. See Changing the radio key for your existing transmitter. Press and hold the test button located on the bottom of the portable receiver until the green and yellow LEDs blink alternately. Release the button. Press the test button/s on the transmitter within 30 seconds to send the new radio key. All LEDs on the receiver should blink 5 times to show that the radio key has been changed. It then returns to normal mode. Please note: All Visit units must be set to the same radio key in order to operate as a group. Accessories The portable receiver can be complemented with the following accessories (not included): A Bed shaker wakes you with vibrations if anything happens while you are asleep. Connect it to the receiver (top socket on the right) and slide it under your pillow or mattress (bed shaker not included). A power supply from Bellman’s range only can be used. Please contact your Bellman stockist. If your receiver has a fixed place, you can connect it to mains power. Advanced programming By using advanced programming, you can customise the signal pattern from a specific transmitter and event, displaying the LED colour, sound and vibration pattern of your choice (vibrating pad not included). The advanced programming overrides the radio key and pairs the units via the serial number. Please note that smoke alarms cannot be programmed for safety reasons. This may also be useful if you have more than 4 door, phone or baby cry transmitters where 4 is the maximum you can have. It could be that you don’t have a baby cry, but have 5 door transmitters. You can use the baby cry’s LED to signal the 5th door transmitter. Note: Your transmitter must be activated as it is intended to be used in the system to generate the right signal. This means that you can’t always use the transmitter test button (see Default signal pattern for the relevant transmitter). 5 RET/FORM/006.001 Programming the portable receiver Press and hold the test button on the receiver. The green and yellow LEDs will start to blink alternately. While still holding down the button, activate the desired transmitter as intended (transmitter not included). The power LED on the receiver will light up in yellow to show that you are in advanced programming mode. Release the button. Scroll through the different LED options by pressing the test button on the receiver. Select the desired LED colour when it shows by holding down the test button until the power LED goes out and lights up again. Scroll through the different sound options by pressing the test button on the receiver. Select the desired sound by holding down the test button until the power LED goes out and lights up again. Scroll through the different vibration options (if a bed shaker is being used, not included) by pressing the test button on the receiver. Select the desired vibration pattern by holding down the test button until the power LED goes out and lights up again. The receiver will now show the new LED colour, sound and vibration pattern. Press the test button briefly to end the demonstration. After a short while, it will return to normal mode. Deleting the advanced programming Follow the procedure below to delete the advanced programming. Hold down the test button on the receiver until the green and yellow LEDs blink alternately. Release the button. Press the test button on the receiver 3 times in quick succession. All LEDs will light up for ~2 seconds to show that it has been deleted. Troubleshooting The receiver seems to be turned off The batteries are depleted. Replace them with 4 x 1.5V LR14 alkaline batteries. The power LED is yellow when the receiver is activated. The battery level is low. Replace them with 4 x 1.5V LR14 alkaline batteries. The receiver does not respond when a transmitter is activated, but works when I use the test button Check the transmitter batteries and connections. Move the receiver closer to the transmitter to make sure it’s within radio range. Check that the receiver is set to the same radio key as the other units in the Visit system, see Changing the radio key. The receiver is activated for no apparent reason There is probably another Visit system installed nearby that triggers your system. Change the radio key on all units, see Changing the radio key. 6 RET/FORM/006.001 The receiver is too quiet Turn up the volume using the red volume dial on the top of the unit. The receiver is not flashing Check that the flash signal switch on the back of the unit is set to the ON position.
