University Of The Highlands & Islands Blackberry Migration
The following tasks must be performed before moving your blackberry handheld over to the new
Office365 email environment.
Steps Involved: Ensure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager Installed
 USB Cable required to connect device
 Remove wireless Synchronisation for Contacts, Memos and tasks for backup
 Connect Blackberry smartphone to PC or laptop to begin backup
 Choose relevant databases to backup and save the backup file somewhere safe
 Wipe the Blackberry smartphone
 Visit the new blackberry enterprise service URL and generate an activation password
 Activate your handheld with the relevant email and activation password
 Restore content from backup file using desktop manager
Please note any custom settings you have (different font size, ring tone etc) will be lost, only data will
be backed up and recovered. You will need to setup any personalisation after the Blackberry has
been reconfigured.
Step 1
In order to backup contacts, memos and tasks you must disable wireless synchronisation of those
services, to do this perform the following depending on the blackberry model you own (Find Version
by choosing Options – About on your device)
For BlackBerry® Device Software 6.0 to 7.1:
Memos and Tasks:
1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click MemoPad / Tasks.
2. Press the Menu key, and then click Options.
3. Next to Wireless Synchronization remove the check to disable wireless synchronization.
4. Press the Escape button.
5. Press the Menu key and click Save.
Contacts:
1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Contacts.
2. Press the Menu key, and then click Options.
3. Click on Desktop or the email address listed under Contact Lists.
4. Next to Wireless Synchronization remove the check to disable wireless synchronization.
5. Press the Escape button.
6. Press the Menu key and click Save.
7. Repeat these steps for the remaining contact lists
For BlackBerry® Device Software 4.0 to 5.0:
Address Book:
1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Address Book.
2. Press the Menu key, and then click Options.
3. Click on Desktop or the email address under Address Books.
4. In the Wireless Synchronization field, select No to turn off wireless organizer data
synchronization.
5. Press the Escape button.
6. Click Save.
7. Repeat these steps for the remaining address books.
Memos and Tasks:
1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click MemoPad / Tasks.
2. Press the Menu key, and then click Options.
3. In the Wireless Synchronization field, select No to turn off wireless organizer data
synchronization.
4. Press the Escape button.
5. Click Save.

Step 2
1. Launch Blackberry Desktop Manager (Download the install here and select Run when
prompted). Install any additional software requested. Once installed you can connect your
blackberry device via usb cable (Ignore or say no to mass storage mode). You will need to
cancel any auto play windows that appear and choose get started with new device, once
software has recognised device, choose Backup Now,
2. Give the backup file a name and choose a path to save the file followed by clicking Back Up

Step 3
A complete wipe of your blackberry handheld is required for the new services to register correctly. To
wipe your handset please perform the following based on your handset software model
For BlackBerry® Device Software 4.5 to 4.7

On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options.
Click Security Options > General Settings. Otherwise, click Security.
Display the menu, and then click Wipe Handheld > Continue.
Type blackberry, and then press the Enter key. All data on the BlackBerry
smartphone is deleted.
For BlackBerry Device Software 5.0
1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options.
2. Click Security Options > Security Wipe.
3. Type blackberry in the field at the bottom, and then press Wipe.
For BlackBerry 6.0 - 7.0
1. On the Home screen of the smartphone, click Options.
2. Click Security > Security Wipe.
3. Type blackberry in the field at the bottom, and then press Wipe.
Step 4
1. Before proceeding to this step please disconnect your blackberry device.
2. Open Internet Explorer and visit the following link:
https://msft11.businesscloud.blackberry.com/webdesktop/login
3. Click on your ID if this should appear and it will redirect you to the blackberry
web desktop
4. You will see an option to Create an Enterprise activation password on the
right hand side
5. Click on this link and type any password in for activation then click on Set the
enterprise activation password to continue
6. Once password is set navigate to Options – Advanced Options – Enterprise
Activation on your device.
7. Enter you [email protected] followed be the activation password initially set in
the web portal
8. Press the blackberry key in to then choose Activate.
After this is done before restoring your data, repeat Step 1 and disable
the Address Book and MemoPad/Tasks wireless synchronisation.

Step 5
Once activated you can now restore your data from the backup file created earlier.
Connect your blackberry to your pc and launch Blackberry Desktop Manager
Once launched choose Device - Restore
Within the restore window select the backup location if not already selected using browse and choose
Select device data and settings (as shown below)
The following databases should be selected to restore (no other databases should be ticked unless
absolutely required)



Click on Restore to recover data onto your blackberry handheld.
After this is done before restoring your data, repeat Step 1 but ENABLE
the Address Book and MemoPad/Tasks wireless synchronisation (i.e.,
set it to yes.)
