Important Qualifier Information – Schools in Position to Qualify for the 2013 MHSAA Football Playoffs
Sunday Selection Show Time 7 p.m. – FOX Sports Detroit
Date: October 2013
As you are aware, there will be 256 qualifiers to the 2013 11-Player MHSAA Football Playoffs and 16 qualifiers to
the 8-Player MHSAA Football Playoffs. In order to assure an expedient and accurate schedule of first round games on
Selection Sunday, it is necessary that all schools cooperate in the process by completing the following steps.
1 – Prior to your Week Nine game, go to MHSAA.com and check your team’s record and playoff point average.
If any of your information (or your opponent’s information) is inaccurate, a school representative (administrator
or head coach) should contact the MHSAA Office immediately. To find your information, click on Playoff Point
Summary from the Football page on MHSAA.com to access a list that can be sorted in a variety of ways. Click on your
school name to review the week-by-week results we have for your school and your opponents, as well as the calculation
of your playoff point average.
2 – On Sunday morning before 8:00 am (or after all Week 9 games are complete), use the same process as
above to review your school’s record and playoff point average on MHSAA.com. If anything is incorrect regarding your
school’s record and/or playoff average, a school representative (administrator or head coach) must call the MHSAA office
between 8:00-8:30 a.m. on Sunday to report the potential error. The phone number is 517-332-5046. This number
should only be called to report potential errors. The playoff point list on MHSAA.com will constantly update as scores are
reported throughout the weekend; if you see an error before Sunday morning, send Andy Frushour an e-mail with the
correct result – [email protected].
3 – SELECTION SUNDAY SHOW TIME 7 P.M. ON FOX SPORTS DETROIT – The starting time for the Selection
Sunday Show on FOX Sports Detroit, the official announcement of the playoff qualifiers and first round pairings, has been
moved to 7 p.m. Please communicate to your players, parents and fans that the show will not be streamed.
BROADCASTS OF FOOTBALL PLAYOFF GAMES – All broadcasts of all MHSAA Football Playoff games must
be approved in advance by the MHSAA Office. If you are hosting a game, please alert your local broadcasters – audio or
video – radio station, cable TV outlet or internet - that if you do not receive formal notification from this office, you cannot
allow them to broadcast. The notification will come to you in an e-mail from our office. We know space is limited at some
facilities, so if there are multiple requests for audio (radio) broadcasts, the host site will accommodate an outlet following
each school, based on the input from the administration of each school.
4 - After the pairings have been announced, the host school should contact its opponent to finalize the site,
day and time of the first-round game. That information should be faxed immediately to the MHSAA so work can progress
on the assignment of officials, and so that information can be released to the media. The enclosed form (FB-20) must be
used, and should be faxed to the MHSAA (517-332-4071) no later than 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28. Changes in
home and away designations and opponents within a Pre-District (11-Player) or Regional Semifinal (8-Player) may be
made no later than 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 28, if they are the result of MHSAA clerical error.
5 – Game Tickets – Host schools will be sent tickets by UPS, to be received no later than Wed., October 30.
6 – Tournament Ball- Teams must be prepared to use an approved MHSAA Rawlings product for all tournament
games. (ST5PROS-MI, ST5-MI, ST5COMP-MI, ST5H, PRO5, PRO5R)
7 – Finally, please go to the MHSAA.com to be sure that the following school information is current in the event
we need to contact you during the playoff qualification process:


AD & Principal Office Telephone Numbers
AD Home & Cell Telephone Number

AD & PRINCIPAL E-MAIL ADDRESS
8 – Review Participating Team Information – mhsaa.com football page
9 – Film Exchange Procedures - Per Representative Council, unless other arrangements are mutually agreed
upon, as a last resort, each school will make available by 9 a.m. on Monday in the office of its school principal the
required film or videotape for the “exchange.” Teams will exchange videos/films of their latest two games prior to
competition by 9 a.m. Monday following “Selection Sunday” unless both schools agree on another arrangement. The
procedure of exchanging videos/films of the two previous games played prior to the scheduled playoff game will continue
throughout the tournament. Schools refusing to cooperate will be reported to the MHSAA. A competing school desiring to
videotape or film a Football Playoff game must receive permission to reserve space in the press box from the tournament
manager. Films of losing teams in the playoffs taken at earlier round Football Playoff games may not be used for scouting
purposes by winning teams in the opposite bracket. Schools wishing to videotape/film games at other sites may do so
without securing advanced permission but must film from the stands or spectator standing area if press box space is not
available.
