ADVANCED COMPOSITES ONE SHOT PROCESSING TECHNOLOGY for automotive parts ONE SHOT PROCESSING TECHNOLOGY for automotive parts Material, design and process technology aligned during the recent collaboration between The Polytec Group and TenCate Advanced Composites, for the serial production of thermoplastic composites for the automotive industry. The VICS sandwich structure can be combined with other patented systems for acoustic- and thermal performance requirements. In this way a multifunctional part can be made in a one shot process for optimal efficiency and quality. Polytec successfully created the new and innovative VICS (Variable In-Moulded Composite Sandwich) production process during the development of the Jaguar F-type AWD underbody panel, with the use of reinforcement materials from TenCate Advanced Composites. Additionally, TenCate Cetex® thermoplastic laminates can be used over the entire component surface or locally where required, providing full design flexibility and ensuring material is placed where it is most needed. The TenCate Cetex® thermoplastic material (G/PP) was selected to form the sandwich structure due to the high rigidity and lightweight properties, with the material format from TenCate allowing pinpoint-accurate reinforcement of the backing material. The TenCate Cetex® organo sheets (also known as Reinforced Thermoplastic Laminates, or RTLs) are pressed with LWRT and GMT in a single production step, thus improving processing efficiencies and overall quality of the part. ADVANTAGES: >>One-Step process >>3-Dimensional shapes >>Suitable for large volume production >>Local application for optimal cost >>Compatibility with additional systems VICS is helping the automotive industry meeting the ever increasing challenges of CO2 emission reduction.
