DANISH ROUNDERS 1. The Team: For SDSSA purposes – a mixed team of 12-15 players (Division B 10-15 players) 2. Equipment: 1 standard Rounders bat 1 tennis ball 5 bases (hoops or softball bases are ideal) 3. Rules: Batting/bowling decided by toss of a coin To begin play the umpire calls “batter up” – then “play” To be legal the ball must pass over the home base between the height of the batters knees and shoulders Bowling must be underarm The batter must run if the ball is legal and they hit it, swing and miss it, or leave it The batter may run through on first base, but not 2nd or 3rd bases First two fouls are counted as strikes, every foul after that is counted as a foul until the child strikes out 3 strikes and the batter is out A ball striking the batter gives the batter a “walk” to 1st base. Also 4 balls is a walk. A batter is out if: o The ball is caught o The ball is returned to the bowler who stands in or on the bowlers base, holds the ball above his head and calls “stop” before the batter reachers the base to which he is running. o He does not return to the base he was on before a caught ball is returned to the bowler who calls “stop” Any number of batters can be on a base at one time Base batters may not run on fouls All players bat Base batters may not leave the base until the ball leaves the bowlers hand and must return to the base on a foul hit Batters must touch all bases No stealing in Danish rounders The last batter has to get to first base safely in order to score and all other runners must get home 1
